• we use photographs, where we go out and
  photograph the same plot every spring and every
  fall to look at the changes in the abundance and
  the distribution and the size of the mussels and
  barnacles , of the major algae, the kelps that
  growthat allows us to gather a lot of
  information in a short period of time. Then we
  can bring those photographs into the laboratory
