Earning a college degree is an integral part of
the great American Dream. College education not
only opens more career opportunities for
individuals but also polishes their social
skills. Despite these benefits, enrollments in
higher education institutions have been declining
for the past six years.
According to studies, enrollment at four-year
for-profit academic institutions declined by
6.8, while enrollment at four-year nonprofit
higher education platforms declined by 0.4 in
spring 2018. While the rate of decline may seem
small, it represents an alarming trend in higher
education.

students with irregular attendance records or
inadequate academic performance often assume
that they will not be able to attend college in
the future. The lack of adequate career
counseling at this stage can further solidify
this assumption. As a result, students often fail
to pursue higher education.

3. Poorly managed enrollment systems Another
factor that may be contributing to the current
decline in college enrollment is a poorly managed
college recruitment system. Higher education
systems are not always fully transparent and free
from bias. These systems are not able to predict
the number of applicants and assess each
applicant according to their abilities. Poor
enrollment systems are also unable to predict the
financial needs of incoming students, which
ultimately leads to a decline in college
