ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Karnataka State Womens University is a very
popular and reputed educational institution in
the state. It is located in Bijapur, Karnataka
and is the first university in the state entirely
for the education of women. The Government of
Karnataka established the university in 2003.
Moreover, the Karnataka State Womens University
offers many UG, PG, Diploma and certificate
courses in different fields. Karnataka State
Womens University main aim is to provide
education to the women in the State and promote
their development as well. There are 137 colleges
under the affiliation of Karnataka State Womens
University, located in 13 different districts of
the State. KSWU emphasises the innovation,
creativity, research and academic achievement of
women. Moreover, the University Grants Commission
has approved the university and the NAAC has also
accredited the institution as Grade B.

HISTORY
The Karnataka State Womens University is the
first university for women in Karnataka and it
was established in 2003. The university allows
women to continue their education despite various
changes or gaps, which could be childbirth,
marriage etc. The university also has various
study centres and daycare centres for women who
have children. Moreover, KSWU also has three PG
Centres located in Mandya, Udatadi, and
Sindhanoor in Karnataka. Additionally, over the
years Karnataka State Womens University has
partnered with a number of institutions and
organisations. These include RV Center for
Cognitive Technology, University of North Texas
and Sharada Vikas Trust. Akkamahadevi University
has nine departments which are the Centre of Yoga
Studies, Physical Education, Education and
Research, Journalism and Mass Communication,
Management, Science and Technology, Social
Science, and Humanities

COURSES
Bachelors KSWU offers B.P.Ed and B.Ed, which is
both for a duration of two years. The intake for
the former is 50 students, whereas, for B.Ed, the
total no of seats is 100. Masters KSWU offers
M.Ed, M.P.Ed. The candidates applying for this
course should have a degree in Education and
Physical Education respectively. Additionally,
the university also offers M.A in various
subjects including Urdu, Hindi, English, Kannada,
History, Journalism and Mass Communication,
Library and Information, Sociology, Social Work,
and Political Science. KSWU offers M.Sc programs
in many subjects, which are Mathematics,
Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Botany,
Electronics, Computer Applications, Computer
Science, Food and Nutrition, Physics, Zoology and
Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Additionally, the
university also offers MBA and M.Com. Some of the
specialisations under MBA are HRM, Marketing and
Finance. PG Diploma The university offers PG
Diploma courses in Yoga Studies, Economics,
Translation, and Music (Hindustani Vocal).

INFRASTRUCTURE
Library Akkamahadevi University has a rich
collection of books and journals. Additionally,
the new books are updated monthly for the
convenience of the students. KSWU has more than
80,000 volumes and it also has a large collection
of periodicals. The library also makes use of the
IT Centre. Information Technology allows students
to access various online resources and databases
to download e-books and e-journals. Additionally,
the students can avail of other facilities in the
library like printing, taking photocopies and the
like. Akkamahadevi University gives free access
to INFILIBNET so that the students can refer to
online resources within the campus at any point
in time. Other facilities Akkamahadevi University
has a sports complex with facilities for various
sports both indoor and outdoor. KSWU has a
volleyball court, Kho-Kho ground, Tennis court,
cricket court, basketball court, a Standard 400
mts Track and a Kabaddi ground as well.

Additionally, the instructor is a part of the
Physical Education department and students can
use the gym at any time. Moreover, there are a
couple of equipment in the gym which is 8
station, there are chrome dumbbells, Olympian
barbell set, magnetic cycle, magnetic bike,
motorized heavy-duty treadmill, and a manual
treadmill among many others. Additionally, there
is a Media Centre which is called a state of art,
Jnanavahini. This is a part of the Journalism
and Mass Communication department. This Media
Centre has various equipment for recording radio
and tv programmes, shooting as well. The students
telecast a news channel which is called the Akka
TV. Additionally, they also focus on the
university newsletter, which is an e-paper called
Mahila Dhwani. Additionally, Akkamahadevi
University has a list of study centres where they
offer many certificate courses. A majority of the
courses are related to Indian History and focus
on the various teachings and principles related
to Indian culture. Some of the study centres are
Mundaragi Shri. Jagadguru Annadaneeshwara Sharana
Literature and Cultural Studies Chair,
Bhaskaracharya Chair, Gandhi Studies Centre,
Maulana Azad Centre, Swami Vivekananda Centre,
Kanakadasa Studies Centre and Dr B R Ambedkar
Centre. Fee Structure Akkamahadevi University fee
structure is around the range of INR 11,000 to
25,000. The first-year fees for B.P.Ed is INR
25,235. Masters The first-year fees for M.A and
M.Com is INR 16,940. The first-year fees for MSW
and M.Sc are INR 16,890 and INR 20,240. As for
PhD courses, the first year fees is INR 11585
