A (Address Entry)
  • It is a record that is present on the server. It
    contains the hostname and IP address of the
    server. It is the entry that tells DNS servers
    the identity of the users server. This enables
    the visitors to find the users server on the
    Internet. An A entry can be added to the users
    hostname in WHMs Add an A Entry for Your
    Hostname interface by following this specific
    path- WHM -gt Home -gt DNS Functions -gt Add an A
    Entry for Your Hostname.

Access Control List (ACL)
  • It refers to those permissions that are granted
    by the owner of a server to a reseller. It can be
    defined in the Edit Privileges section of the
    Reseller Center interface in WHM. The way to do
    it is by clicking on WHM -gt Home -gt Resellers -gt
    Reseller Center.

Web Hosting
  • Since cPanel is a web hosting control panel, it
    becomes vital to shed some light upon the concept
    of web hosting when providing information on
    terms related to cPanel. Web hosting refers to
    certain paid services (leasing server space as
    well as necessary technology and services) that
    are offered through various packages. These
    services are needed to store and deliver the
    files of a website, for it to be accessible over
    the Internet. It is the server provided by the
    web host that stores every element of a website
    (files, images, text and videos) and makes these
    elements available to website visitors.
  • Terms that indicate a web hosting company are

Account
  • It is that record which enables the user to
    access information that is privatized. A new
    cPanel WHM account can be created in the
    Create s New Account interface in WHM. This can
    be done by clicking on WHM -gt Home -gt Account
    Functions gtgt Create a New Account.

Account Suspension
  • It refers to the restriction imposed on an
    account as a result of fees not being paid. Web
    hosting providers usually suspend such accounts
    until the payment is received by them. Post
    receiving the due payment such an account is
    unsuspended. An account that has been suspended
    retains all the data but such an account holders
    website cannot be accessed by visitors. An
    account can be suspended as well as unsuspended
    in the Manage Account Suspension interface in
    WHM, by clicking on WHM -gt Home -gt Account
    Functions -gt Manage Account Suspension.
  • In the context of websites, it is essential to
    mention that there are many types of web hosting
    services to meet the different needs of websites.
    Web hosting can be shared, dedicated, VPS, Cloud,
    Reseller and WordPress. Certain terms used for
    various types of hosting service providers
    include, Cloud Hosting Company, the Best Web
    Hosting Company in India or even the Best Linux
    Web Hosting in India.

Account-Level Filter
  • It is that rule which determines where the
    delivery of the email related to a domains main
    email account, which meets certain criteria, will
    happen.

Addon Domain
  • It refers to an additional domain name that is
    owned by a cPanel account. Each addon domain is
    stored by the system in the configurable
    directory that it has. This lets the website
    owners manage many domains using a single cPanel
    account. Addon domains can be created and managed
    in the Addon Domians interface in cPanel. The
    path to do so is, cPanel -gt Home -gt Domains -gt
    Addon Domains.
  • Addon domains need to be registered with a domain
    name registrar.

Addons (cPAddons)
  • These refer to the additional services that are
    available for cPanel users. This includes, but is
    not limited to, shopping carts, blogs and message
    boards. A user can install cPAddons in Install
    cPAddons Site Software interface in WHM by
    clicking on WHM -gt Home -gt cPanel -gt Install
    cPAddons Site Software.

Analog
  • It is a program that provides information
    regarding a websites visitors. This information
    is available in graphical as well as in
    statistical form. It can be accessed in cPanels
    Analog Stats interface by clicking on cPanel -gt
    Home -gt Metrics -gt Analog Stats.

Anonymous FTP
  • It is that protocol which enables those visitors
    who dont have FTP accounts, to download files
    from and upload files to a website. It does
    involve security threats. Anonymous FTP offers a
    good option when it comes to making files
    available publicly for download. It can be
    configured in the Anonymous FTP interface in
    cPanel by clicking on cPanel -gt Home -gt Files -gt
    Anonymous FTP.
  • File permissions and directory access permissions
    need to be changed when an anonymous FTP is set
    up. This ensures protection of sensitive
    information.

Apache
  • It is a web server software. Requests are
    received by it from browsers as well as web pages
    are served by it to the browsers. It can be
    configured in the Apache Configuration
    interface in WHM, by clicking on
  • WHM -gt Home -gt Service Configuration -gt Apache
    Configuration.

Apache Handler
  • It refers to the record that determines how a
    specific type of file gets processed by the
    Apache software. Apache handles certain types of
    files. The Apache handlers can be configured in
    the Apache Handlers interface in cPanel. This
    is done by following the path, cPanel -gt Home -gt
    Advanced -gt Apache Handlers.

Apache SpamAssassin
  • It is an application meant to filter suspected
    spam. The filtration of spam on it can be
    configured aggressively or mildly depending on
    the need of the user. This service can be enabled
    in the Tweak Settings interface in WHM, by
    clicking on WHM -gt Home -gt Server Configuration
    -gt Tweak Settings.
  • Spam filters can be created in the Spam Filters
    interface in cPanel, by clicking on cPanel -gt
    Home -gt Email -gt Spam Filters.

API Token
  • It refers to an authorization key hash. It allows
    third-party applications to run API functions
    with the account data of WHM. API Tokens can be
    managed in the Manage API Tokens interface in
    WHM, by clicking on WHM -gt Home -gt Development -gt
    Manage API Tokens.

Application Key (app_key)
  • It is that value which identifies in a unique way
    each application that is within cPanels
    interface. Each app_key is meant for a single
    item uniquely. These values can be used to
    develop cPanel plugins.

Authentication
  • It is the process that confirms the identity of
    those with whom sensitive information is shared
    by the server. With regard to software, this
    process usually involves either a username and a
    password or a public and a private key pair. A
    two-factor authentication (2FA) for cPanel or WHM
    accounts can be configured. Many methods can be
    used by third-party integrators to authenticate
    with cPanel WHM.

Authoritative Nameserver
  • It refers to a nameserver that returns responses
    to queries that are related to one or more DNS
    zones. Point to the domains authoritative
    nameserver is recorded by it. DNS information for
    related domains isnt cached by these
    nameservers.

AutoConfig
  • It is that process which sets up a users
    Thunderbird, Outlook or Outlook Express
    accounts, in order for their cPanel email to be
    received.

Autoresponder
  • It lets the user automate replies to incoming
    email. It can be configured in the
    Autoresponder interface in cPanel, by clicking
    on cPanel -gt Home -gt Email -gt Autoresponders.

AutoSSL
  • This is a feature in WHM that offers
    free, Domain-Validated SSL certificates to the
    domains of users.
  • It inspects the installed certificates of users
    periodically and replaces the ones that would
    expire soon. It replaces those as well that are
    incapable of providing a minimum level of
    security. To access this feature a user needs to
    check the Manage AutoSSL interface in WHM. The
    path to do so is WHM -gt Home -gt SSL/TLS -gt Manage
    AutoSSL.

AWStats (Advanced Web Statistics)
  • It is a program that makes information available
    (graphical and statistical) related to the
    visitors to a website. It can be accessed by
    clicking on cPanel -gt Home -gt Metrics -gt Awstats.
