  • A force is an external agency (push or pull)
which changes the state of rest or of uniform
    motion of a body.
  • (i) Produces motion in a body at rest, (ii) Stops
or tries to stop a moving body, or (iii) changes
or tries to change the direction of motion of the
    body.
  • Newton's first law states that every object will
remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight
line unless compelled to change its state by the
    action of an external force.
  • Newton's second law of motion states that the
rate of change of momentum is equal to the force
    acting on the particle.
  • Force ? rate of change of momentum
  • ? rate of change of (mass velocity)
  • Force ? mass rate of change of velocity
  • ? mass acceleration
  • F ? ma

  • A force system is a collection of forces acting
at specified locations in one or more planes.
  • When two or more forces act on a body, they are
called for a system of force.
  • Concurrent / Non-concurrent Point
  • Coplanar / Non-coplanar Plane
  • Collinear/ Non-collinear Linear
  • Parallel/ Non-Parallel llel or Not

Concurrent forces The forces, which meet at one
point.

  • Non-concurrent Forces The forces, which act at
    different points.
  • Coplanar forces The forces, whose lines of
action lie on the same plane.
  • Non-coplanar Forces The forces, whose lines of
action lie on the different plane.

Collinear forces The forces acting along the
same line of action. Non-collinear
forces The forces acting along the different
lines of action.

Parallel Forces The forces line of action are
parallel to each other is called parallel forces.
(b) Unlike parallel forces
Collinear

acting along the same line in the same
plane. Coplanar Non-collinear force
