you know, here are a few simple ways you can
express your appreciation

• Fly the flag - In recent years, the number of
  flags outside of homes has increased as Americans
  show the flag to honor a Veteran family member or
  friend.
• Attend a memorial or celebration - All over the
  country, Americans celebrate the service and
  sacrifices of Veterans by attending parades and
  picnics. Honor your Veteran - or all Veterans -
  by attending the event near you.

• Become a pen pal - This simple act of writing to
  a Veteran is always appreciated, particularly
  those alone in a Veterans hospital, regardless of
  whether the Veteran is known to you.
• Inquire - For most Veterans, military service was
  a turning point in their lives and many of them
  suffer the lasting consequences of war. The next
  time you are at a social function and meet a
  Veteran, simply ask, "Tell me about your time in
  the service."
