1
Camera Shots
2
Extreme Long Shot
  • used as a scene-setting, establishing shot. Shows
the audience what they can expect from that
location. For instance if the shot showed a
picture of the white house then, it can be
assumed that the film will make reference to the
    American politics.

3
Mid shot
  • Contains a figure from the knees/waist up and is
normally used for dialogue scenes, or to show
some detail of action. Directors might use this
shot to distance the character from the audience,
in an attempt to make them seem isolated and
    lonely.

4
Close up
  • A certain feature or part of the subject takes up
the whole frame. This shot magnifies the object.
Often to reveal a specific detail to the
audience. This shot can be used to let the
audience into the characters life and gain trust
    for that individual.

5
High angle shot
  • A shot looking down on a character or subject
often isolating them in the frame. Making them
seem as a less important character or showing
that they have lower status/power within their
    group/gang.

6
Low angle
  • A shot looking up at a character/subject often
making them look bigger in the frame. It can make
everyone look heroic and/or dominant. This
highlights their level of power and authority
which they have. This can make the audience feel
    scared and intimidated.

7
Two Shot
  • A shot of two people, framed similarly to a mid
shot. Usually showing their conversation, and
body language. Depending on the angle it can show
the status of the characters, the taller one is
    often the more dominating one.

8
Over the shoulder
  • A shot where the camera is positioned behind one
    subject's shoulder, usually during a
conversation. It highlights the characters facial
expression so that the audience get a greater
understanding of the emotion of the character.

9
Extreme close up
  • Would show only the mouth or eyes, with no
background detail whatsoever. This is a very
artificial shot, and can be used for dramatic
effect.  This shot highlights the importance of
that detail, it would probably have significance
and be linked later on in the film. An extreme
close up of a characters eyes can help the
    audience trust the character.

10
Point of view
  • This is shot which the view point as if the
camera was actually the characters eyes, giving
their perspective. Used frequently in horror and
thriller films, right before someone is killed or
something bad occurs in the narrative. This shot
puts the audience in the view point of the
character, gives them an insight into their mind
    set and mental state.

11
  • A shot that depicts an entire character or object
from head to foot, often shows a bit of the
scenery also. Showing off the characters outfit
and shows the audience the real life height and
    weight of the individual.
