2 Where do bees live ?
Bees live in every part of the world except for
the north and south poles.
3The life cycle of a honey bee
- Honey bees begin life as an egg. The egg is
about the size of a comma.
4After about three days a worker egg will hatch
into a larvae. After six days a nurse bee will
feed the developing larvae a jelly made of pollen
and altered bee spit.
5On the twenty day of life the pupa emerges as a
female worker bee. Now they are ready to join
the other worker bees and assume regular duties.
6Male bees called drones dont emerge until their
twenty fourth day of life. Instead of the male
bees working they mate with the queen bee.
7What jobs do Queen Bees have?
Queen bees lay about 1,500 eggs a day. They live
about 2-8 weeks. Queens also have mouthparts to
chew. They also have a stinger with no barbs.
8What jobs do drones have?
Drones mate with the queen bee. They have no
stingers. Drones live for about eight weeks.
9What jobs do worker bees have?
Worker bees take care of the grubs, comb
construction, and brood rearing. Old worker bees
are named field bees. Young workers clean.
10How do bees depend on flowers?
Inside hive
Flowers produce nectar that honeybees use to make
honey.
11How do bees depend on flowers?
Bee sucking nectar
Bees collect pollen from flowers to feed their
young. Flowers make more pollen than bees need so
the extra is awarded for more food.
12How do bees depend on flowers?
Flowers have nectarines that produce nectar. This
is a sweet mixture of sugar that gives the bees
lots of energy. They make it into honey.
13How do bees depend on flowers?
Pollen sticks to the fuzzy hair that covers
honeybees bodies. The pollen rubs off on to the
next flower.
14How do bees depend on flowers?
Bees collect pollen in pollen baskets. Bees
remove the load from their legs when they return
to the hive and the house bee stores the pollen
in a special part of the comb. Bees also collect
nectar from flowers. They use the nectar to make
honey and to feed the baby bees.
15 How do bees make honey ?
- Worker bees fly to flowers to collect nectar and
- pollen.
- Nectar is a sweet liquid. Nectar is 40 to 80
water. Bees suck the nectar into their mouth that
looks like a straw and it goes to their honey
stomach.
16- Nectar comes from flowers
- The nectar gets sucked up into their mouth, it
looks likes a straw.
17- Bees spit nectar from their mouth into the
cells in the hive. - Other worker bees put the nectar in cells.
- Chemicals called enzymes are added to the
- nectar in cells.
18 How much honey do honeybees make?
For every pound (5.kg) of honey .Bees must make
more than 25,000 flights of flowers to collect
nectar.
19Why do bees make honey?
Workers feed the baby bees honey.
Bees store honey in their hive for food
Baby bees are fed honey by worker bees. They make
beebread by adding HONEY to the pollen to feed
the developing larvae.

21Why do bees make honey?
Bees need a lot of honey in the winter when
flowers are dead. Nectar makes honey and it comes
from flowers. So bees need to get a lot of nectar
to make honey when flowers arent around.
22Why do bees make honey?
When swarms of bees need more energy to find a
new hive, they need honey. The bees sometimes
leave when their queen dies.

26How do bees help people?
Bees make beeswax.
That bee wax turns into candles.
27How do bees help people
Bees alert the people from the army in New Mexico
and Los Alamos that there will be an explosion.
These people train the bees to do the task.
Bees smell smoke.
28How do bees help people
People turn that honey into food. Honey is used
for many different things
