1
Information Watch Parts Wholesale Market and how
it has changed

2
Introduction
Watch parts wholesale trading has undergone
substantial changes after the popularization of
quartz technology. The components in current
generation watches are different from hand wound
or automatic watches that were used before the
introduction of battery operated and digital
watches. This distinction is well marked for a
regular visitor to a wholesale market for watch
components.
3
This change in technology
This change in technology has also brought about
a change in the components available in the watch
market. When hand wound varieties were popular,
springs and gears were commonly used. The
material of these springs and gears differed from
one manufacturer to another. Steel, brass,
platinum and even gold were used to make these
metallic components. Gold plated watches were
collectors items and owned with pride. Apart
from gears and springs, many watches had their
bezels made of gold. Chain watches were also
prized possessions of bygone eras. These are no
longer used and carry immense antique value.
4
Chain watches and Wrist Watches
Though chain watches were replaced by wrist
watches for their convenience, they form part of
designers dresses. Some of these chain watches
also had metallic dial covers even made of gold.
For these watches dial covers, chains and
protective glasses were additional components. As
these watches were gradually replaced by wristed
varieties, a considerable change was observed in
parts available. Wrist bands of different
materials and appearance started to be sold.
These bands are an inseparable part of a wrist
watch and could be valuable. In keeping with the
aesthetics of a watch, you could choose a band
made from leather, foam, nylon or metal. Among
metal, you might choose among steel, brass,
platinum or gold.
5
Types of Bands
There are dealers who only specialise in selling
different varieties of watch bands. Leather bands
are available in black, dark tan, brown, beige,
fawn and so on. Metallic varieties are also
equally attractive. These could be in the form of
links, hinges, or even chains. Many customers
prefer metallic kind because of their durability
and security. They give a better protection
against snatchers.
6
The Other kinds of Straps
Watch parts wholesale stores selling bands also
keep foam and nylon types. These come in
different shades and offer a trendy look.
Teenagers and college students love these kinds
of watch bands because of their unconventional
look and light weight. These bands also go well
with sports watches as they are not spoilt by
water, heat or dust.
7
Watch Batteries
With initiation of battery operated or quartz
watches, a significant change has come over in
the availability of spare parts. Batteries in the
shape of tablets are used by these quartz watches
and are required to be replaced once or at most
two times a year. These battery operated watches
work on electrical charge and do not require the
assistance of springs.
8
More about watch batteries
Gears are electrically operated with battery
providing the needed charge continuously.
Compared to hand wound watches, these electronic
types require lesser maintenance and care. In
case they become defective, the entire electronic
unit is required to be replaced. These electronic
units are new additions to watch parts wholesale
market.
