Victims
2On November (2013) a super typhoon shocked the
world, It had the International name Haiyan, but
in the Philippines it was known as Typhoon
Yolanda. The strongest tropical cyclone ever
recorded, it is the thirtieth storm of the 2013
Pacific typhoon season. It originated from an
area of low pressure several hundred kilometers
east-southeast of Pohnpei in the Federated States
of Micronesia on November 2, 2013.
3- When Yolanda entered the Philippine Area of
Responsibility (PAR), on November 07, 2013 it had
a Wind Scale of 10-minute sustained 230 km/h and
a 1-minute sustained 315 km/h (195 mph). The
Typhoon inflicted a devastating destruction in
the Visayas Region particularly Samar and Leyte.
The UN Official reports an estimate of about 11
million people who were affected. A majority of
them were left homeless with 6,340 confirmed
fatalities and a total of 1,061 still missing.
4- Despite this huge devastation, the Filipino
spirit stood out. With the resilient effort and
traits of the Filipino people, the nation united
to extend a helping hand to the victims. Ulticon
Builders Inc. also decided to join in and help.
There was an overwhelming outpour of relief goods
so the company of Charlie Gonzales of Davao
decided to help through another means.
5- By collaborating with the Manila DPWH along with
the other Region 11 DPWH Contractors, UBI, Inc.
hired a company to construct a bunkhouse, with
the specification DPWH standards. The bunkhouse
included partitions that paved a way to
accommodate several rooms. This humble effort was
started in a matter of weeks.
6- We hope and pray that the extended efforts were
able to help the victims start anew. This Ulticon
donation does not end in that bunkhouse though,
the company vows in doing its best to help in
providing the necessary aid for present and
future calamities whenever the need arises.
