New Custom Trumpet Models
Band Orchestra News
YTR-9636 Custom Trumpet Yamaha and John Hagstrom
Develop Trumpet With Heightened Flexibility and
Response
The YTR-9636 shares many of the attributes of the
groundbreaking Yamaha Artist Model series Bb and
C trumpets, including a French bead bell rim with
low dome wire that improves sound projection due
to the sharper rim edge. The new horn, however,
features a number of specialized design features,
including a unique "S" shape leadpipe
configuration, which uses the MC1 leadptipe taper
to produce exceptional intonation and response
characteristics.
The YTR-9636 trumpet is the continuation of
Yamaha's Artist Model series, an instrument line
that began with a fundamental reexamination of
the ways new instruments are conceived and
tested. Each instrument is the result of an
extensive collaboration between skilled craftsmen
and a prominent musician who provides his or her
input on each prototype in the design process.
YTR-988 Custom Rotary Piccolo Trumpet Yamaha and
John Hagstrom Develop Trumpet With Heightened
Flexibility and Response
Designed in conjunction with world-renowned
trumpet artists Jens Lindemann and Chris Martin,
the YTR-988 features a multi-plane adjustable
thumbnook and auxiliary finger ring. The
instrument marks the first integration of new a
'light touch' rotor lever mechanism, which
provides a quick response with minimal effort for
the player. "The trumpet's unique design brings
together ultimate playability, excellent
intonation and the warmth of the rotary trumpet
sound," says Jonathan Goldman, product marketing
specialist, Yamaha Wind Instruments. "We believe
this instrument will make a large impact on the
trumpet community."
Ideal for the classical player seeking a more
traditional rotary sound, the YTR-988 works well
in all piccolo trumpet repertoires including
solo, chamber and ensemble literature.

Professional Cornet YCR9435
Band Orchestra News

professional brass player, designed in
collaboration with John Hagstrom of the Chicago
Symphony. The instrument allows for an ease of
transition between trumpet and cornet.

John Hagstrom, the new cornet uses a trumpet
mouthpiece receiver and features an overall
design derived from the Yamaha "Chicago" model C
trumpet, including the use of the MC1 leadpipe
taper, facilitating an unprecedented ease of
transition between trumpet and cornet. "With
more conductors requiring the use of cornet in
standard orchestral repertoire, the YCR-9435 is
an ideal instrument to fit the needs of today's
professional brass player," says Kurt Witt,

cornet will give orchestral trumpet players a new
level of flexibility to meet the increasing and
varying demands of the current orchestral cornet
repertoire." .

New Oboe Series Duet
Band Orchestra News
With the new series of Duet oboes Yamaha sets
another milestone in the development of woodwind
intruments.
Insert Molding Yamaha is premiering this new
technology (patent pending) in order to improve
the student oboes. The upper joint body is
drilled slightly larger around the bore and
tone-holes. Thermoplastic ABS resin is injected
into the cavity, instantly forming the inner
shape of an oboe including the tone holes and
the tenon as an extension of the bore. It is
designed to preserve as much as 90 of the wooden
portion, while its natural appearance is hardly
distinguishable from conventional all-wooden
models.
Tone-Holes Upper joint tone-holes (except metal
octave vents) are molded with resin
simultaniously with the bore. Joint Tenon The
upper joint tenon is also formed from resin as an
extension of the bore. This ensuressmooth
connection and easy disassembling of the joints
even under moist condition. Duet Logo Mark The
gold-coloured trademark logo is stamped on the
back of the upper joint. It symbolizes the duet
of the inner resin layer with the natural
Grenadilla wood surface.

New Five-Octave, Height-Adjustable Model Designed
in Conjunction with Marimba Legend Keiko Abe
Culmination of Over 40 Years of Instrument
Development Yamaha Band Orchestral Division is
pleased to debut the YM-6100 Series Artist Model
Rosewood Marimba, which was designed in
conjunction with world-renowned marimba legend
Keiko Abe. The height-adjustable YM-6100 Series
Marimba is constructed out of hand-selected
rosewood and contains a full, five-octave scale

development with Keiko Abe, the new instrument is
the industry-leading flagship for all Yamaha
marimbas.
The relationship between Yamaha and Keiko Abe
began in the late 1960's. Her valued commitment
to quality instrument development helped Yamaha
develop some of its most popular marimbas
including the 5100, 6000 and the 6000A Series
marimbas. Abe's first US tour in 1977 featured
Yamaha marimbas, which she personally helped to
develop. "Yamaha and Keiko Abe have an extensive
history of collaboration," said Troy Wollwage,
Marketing Manager, Yamaha Percussion. "The 6100
Series Marimba represents the next evolution of
five-octave marimbas. We continually strive to
make improvements in all our instruments. New
production methods combined with innovative ways
of thinking about sound, enabled our design team
to create this top-of-the-line marimba with her
input." Ideal for solo and ensemble performances,
the YM-6100 Series Marimba also features a new
bar suspension cord that is 13 times stronger
than the current marimba cord. It also has easily

YV1605 Intermediate Vibraphone
Band Orchestra News
Yamaha has integrated many of the same design
elements found in Yamaha professional vibraphones
into the YV-1605 Intermediate Vibraphone. By
using the same high-grade bar material and bar
surface treatment as in the high-end vibraphones,
the YV-1605 produces a clear, focused tone with a
very broad dynamic range.
Bars The exclusive Yamaha tuning method is used,
ensuring true pitch and a full sound. The
aluminium alloy bars also feature a silver matte
finish that produces a warm sound. Bar Sizes The
non-graduated bars help to keep this keyboard
compact, while the 1 1/2" width and 1/2" thick
bars allow projection and full tone.
Height Adjustable Frame The height adjustable
frame from 31 1/2" to 34 5/8" allows for the most
comfortable playing position for all
players. Oversized Pedal The oversized pedal
allows pedaling of the instrument from all
playing positions on the keyboard. Motor A quiet
motor, YVM-200, with silent pause control, 25-150
rpm and silent fan speed slider control allows
musical expression without unwanted
noise. Frame The durable frame features a lower
crossbar support and horizontal leg supports to
maintain stability and therefore the playability
of the instrument. Casters Large 3" casters,
with two locking casters on the player's side,

simple design captures an almost iPod-like
aesthetic. The white finish also offers an

matching white piano bench. Building on the H01,
the stylish H11 features player piano-like moving
keys, Yamaha XG technology for fully orchestrated

USB TO DEVICE port for song data storage and
retrieval, and a LAN port to enable access to the
Internet-based ModusRadio. ModusRadio is a
groundbreaking service that elevates streaming
radio to the level of a live performance. Each
station includes a MIDI feed, enabling the Yamaha
piano to play live with moving keys, accompanied
by specially recorded ensemble parts, for
remarkable realism and accuracy.
Yamaha MODUS owners who subscribe to ModusRadio
can choose from a range of music stations
including Broadway, Classical, Country, Great
Piano Solos, Jazz, Pop, Rock, Classic Rock,

complimentary channel featuring full-length,
public domain songs. ModusRadio streams
selections to Internet-connected MODUS pianos,

seven days a week. MODUS H11 is available in a
variety of stunning finishes, including Amber

as Yamaha's proprietary Tri-Amp system for better
sound in all frequency ranges. All MODUS models

Sampling technology with 30 Sample Banks (50 on
the H11), which varies the volume and timbre of
sound according to the player's touch on the
keyboard. Combined with 64-note polyphony
(128-note on the H11), reverb and Dual Voice
capability, the instrument offers 20 instrument
voices and 50 onboard preset piano songs. MODUS

heights with its Stereo Sustain and Key-Off
samples. Stereo Sustain samples recreate the
resonance of the strings and soundboard when the
damper pedal is pressed, contributing to the
unique sound of a grand piano. Key-Off samples
provide the delicate sound of the dampers
touching strings as the keys are released. The
H11 features metronomes and auxiliary jacks that
allow the user to connect the instrument to a
home audio system or for use with headphones.

Custom Absolute Drums
Drum News
The high-grade Custom Absolute drums have
undergone a revamp and now combine the renowned
quality with several of the great new features
first presented in the very top class PHX drum
series. As before two different types of wood
will be available Maple or Birch.
Configuration Flexibility A great variety of
shell sizes gives the drummer the freedom to
create a totally individual, personalized
drumset. Some new outstanding colours are added
as well, such as the Luminous White Sparkle,
which glows in the dark! Hook Lug System The
Hook Lug System, firstly introduced with PHX, has
emerged through the evolution of the Noveau Lug
and minimizes the rotation of the lug casing
during turning, and firmly supports the tuning
boltthrough the wide post even at high
tension. YESS II Shell Mount System The YESSII
Shell Mount System makes the most of the shells
vibration. Employing a special new rubber
material and the wood plate mounting method,
vibrations from the shell and hardware can be
separated, thus minimizing unwanted
resonance. Vent Hole The number of vent holes,
which influence both the drums timbre and
projection, vary between one and ten. This way
the drums sustain length, the amount of mid-bass
tone and the playing comfort cann all be
fine-tuned, particularly on large shells.

IM8 Review in FOH
Pro Audio News
Just recently Jamie Rio of the US Pro Audio
magazin Front Of House tested the new IM8
series mixing consoles after in-depth
investigating and some practical testing at
live-gigs. Here are some interesting comments
from Jamie
... My biggest gig with the IM8 was at a Billy
Vera show. I was testing the 32-channel chassis
using 28 of those channels. The first thing that
comes to mind is that the mixer is designed very
logically. When I am using a new console, I don't
want to think too much about the hardware I want
knobs, switches and faders to be where I expect
them and important ones in obvious color
displays. Yamaha did a good job with this mixers
overall design. The pre-amps are noticeably
transparent and the EQ is smooth and accurate.
These two characteristics of a console are enough
to make or break it, and Yamaha knocked it out of
the park for the price range.... ... I was
uncertain about the one-knob compression, but it
worked well and came in handy for things like
bass and drums. Having the compression knob right
there without having to patch anything in is
sweet. I was mixing monitors from FOH at this gig
and having a good amount of aux sends made things
easier. Also, the faders on the aux sends made
adjustments more accurate. I had two drummers at
this gig, so the sub-groups were a must. In
addition, both drummers did not always play at
the same time, in which case master mutes came in
handy...
...Also worth mentioning is that the mixer feels
solid. That may be a hard concept to get across,
but it is the difference between working with a
pro piece of equipment and a toy. Billy has four
horn players (two trumpets and two saxes), and
once again, the onboard compression was
invaluable with this section (not to mention the
sub-groups). I think Yamaha will be able to fill
a whole lot of mixing needs and scenarios with
this console, and at this price point, it is
available to just about anyone who wants it...

New Subwoofer IS1112
Commercial Audio News
Yamahas Installation Series range of
loudspeakers has proved a great success since its
launch, with a wide range of installations
enjoying the benefits of their excellent audio
quality, unobtrusive design, ease of installation
and highly competitive price point. The range has
recently been expanded with the addition of the
IS1112, a remarkably compact 12 inch bass-reflex
subwoofer, whose diminutive size belies its high
power. The IS1112 is the perfect solution for
providing high quality low-end response in
systems where space restrictions or the need for
unobtrusive audio distribution means that five
and eight inch full-range speakers, such as the
IF2205, IF2108 and IF2208 models, are used for
primary delivery. Providing a seamless, naturally
extended low-end response, the IS1112 features
2,800 watt peak output with a remarkably high
127dB peak sound pressure level, thanks to a 4
voice coil which offers superior reliability,
power handling, and response. Connection to
amplifiers is very straightforward, with input
via Neutrik NL4 and barrier strip connectors. In
addition, a full range cabinet can be fed from an
output socket on the IS1112 when the convenient
loop-through wiring is used. Both full range and
subwoofer signals can be fed to the input via a
single four wire Speakon cable, meaning no
special cross-over cable is needed.
Now shipping!
Twelve M10 suspension points make flying the
IS1112 extremely simple, while a 35mm (13/8)
pole socket on the top surface allows for
straightforward installation in a wide variety of
permanent or temporary situations. Ease of
handling is aided by the inclusion of attachable
rubber feet and integral handles, making the
IS1112 equally at home in live sound applications
as well as for installation. Finished in durable
black or white textured paint, the IS1112 can
also be painted to match the decor of any venue
in which it is installed, meaning architects and
interior designers are as happy as the listener!

MY Card for Broadcast MY8 SDI-D
Commercial Audio News
Yamaha is expanding its extensive range of MY
(mini-YGDAI) series expansion cards in January
2009 with the introduction of a new MY interface
for broadcast applications, the MY8-SDI-D HD-SDI
Demultiplexer. HD-SDI (High Definition Serial
Digital Interface) is a format widely used with
HDTV, transmitting one channel of uncompressed
HDTV video and 16 channels of PCM audio signals
(four groups of four channels), along with time
code and other related data. The MY8-SDI-D
allows the input of HD-SDI embedded audio signals
to the host digital mixer / mix engine. It
features one HD-SDI input with one HD-SDI through
output and will replace conventional converters
to directly feed Yamaha digital mixing products
with eight selectable channels (two groups of
four channels) of the 16 channels of audio in

Joint Marketing Activity in Turkey
Artists Events
In November 2008 Turkish Yamaha distributors DoRe
and Senkop in cooperation with myspace Turkey and
theHall organized a joint marketing action
including internet activity, contest and a final
conert with Rex Richardson and Okan Ersan. For a
start a dedicated webpage of the Yamaha All
Stars Band Vol.1 was launched on Turkish
myspace.com, including a contest, where musicians
could register by sending an add to friends
request. They then could send in audio files of
their own performances on either electric guitar,
bass or trumpet and a jury decided for the best
one in each category. Finally a concert of the
Yamaha All Stars Band took place in theHall, a
prestigious venue in Beyoglu in the centre of
Istanbul, on November 27. In the course of the
concert the winners were announced and the prices
were handed over to them a RGX-A2 guitar, a
RBX4-A2 bass and a YTR1335 trumpet. And finally
all 3 winners had the opportunity to jam together
with the band, which included such high level
musicians as Yamaha trumpet artist Rex Richardson
(USA) and Turkish star guitarist Okan Ersan. The
whole activity proved to be a great success,
being the first of this kind of joint activity
and all involved parties were very satisfied with
the result. A vast number of active contacts
occured via the myspace webpage, while photo,
video and audio material from the concert can now
be used for future promontional activities. While
Rex Richardson took the opportunity to give a
master class at the Mimar Sinar University the
next day together with Turkish no. 1 trumpet
artist Erden Bilgen, the myspace activity was
just turned into Yamaha All Stars Volume 2,
presenting Okan Ersan and Yamaha top drummer Dave
Weckl. For more information please visit
