2SOLAS REGULATION
- SOLAS Chapter XI-2 requires all ships to be
provided with a ship security alert system
which will transmit a security alert to a
designated competent authority when activated in
an emergency situation. - The system is to be provided onboard ships
engaged on international voyages as follows

- All ships constructed on or after July 1, 2004
- Passenger ships (including high-speed), oil
chemical tankers, gas bulk carriers and
high-speed cargo-carrying craft of 500 gt and
over, constructed before July 1, 2004 - Not later
than the first survey of the radio installation
after July 1, 2004 - Other cargo ships of 500 gt and over, and mobile
offshore drilling units constructed before July
1, 2004 not later than the first survey of the
radio installation after July 1, 2006.
