The Natural Science Collaborative
  • The Natural Science Collaborative is a
    non-profit organization that was formed in 1995
    as a broad based cooperative partnership of
    natural resource agencies, interpretive museums,
    institutions, organizations and businesses.

    non-political organization dedicated to providing
    education about our desert, in a variety of
    venues, to benefit our community and its
    visitors.

Public Nature Programs
  • NSC holds a series of
  • free to the public,
  • Monday Night Nature Programs
  • at the Palm Desert Library,
  • a mid valley location,
  • throughout the year.
  • These programs include a
  • wide range of topics about
  • the flora, fauna and life in
  • our desert.
  • Family Nature Programs are held during the
  • summer months. Information is presented in both
    lecture and hands on formats. These programs are
    also free

Summer Nature Camp
  • The Natural Science Collaborative, in
    cooperation with the Indio Youth Task Force and
    College of the Desert, provides a five week
    Summer Nature Camp at the Indio Boys and Girls
    Club and the Fred Young Labor Camp.

Information for Educators
  • The Educators Fall Festival is held annually to
    give teachers and administrators an opportunity
    to meet with nature related agencies,
    organizations and businesses. Information,
    lessons plans and resources are shared to benefit
    area natural science education programs. This is
    a free event.
  • During the Festival the Desert Naturally, a
    resource guide listing the above mentioned
    agencies, organizations and businesses is
    distributed free. The guide is also available to
    the general public at most NSC member sites.

Multi Media Programs
  • The Natural Science Collaborative is
    developing additional materials and programs to
    reach a larger portion of our population by
    producing a television series entitled The Desert
    Naturally.

The Desert Naturally
  • The Desert Naturally is a television series
    designed for multicultural family viewing and of
    particular interest to children 6 to 11 years
    old. It is one facet of the Mother Nature
    Naturally Environmental Education Series .
  • The series will increase awareness of the
    natural resources and beauty of our
  • Desert by producing a quality television
    programming highlighting the Coachella Valleys
    plants, animals, geology, natural history,
    culture and more.

California Desert Nature Festival
  • The California Desert Nature Festival was
    established in 2004.
  • Mission Statement
  • The California Desert Nature Festival shall
    be an annual event created to increase the
    economic impact of nature tourism and increase
    awareness of the value of the natural resources
    of the Southern California Desert Region while
    preserving and enhancing environmental integrity
    from the High Desert to the Salton Sea and
    surrounding areas.

Goals
  • To attract nature tourists, national and
    international, to the
    Southern California Desert Region and increase
    the amount of dollars spent in this area.
  • To strengthen existing alliances with
    nature-friendly businesses, and organizations
    along with educational institutions forming new
    partnerships to increase the impact of the
    festival both economically and in regard to
    conservation.
  • To educate community leaders and the general
    public on the financial and quality of life
    benefits of preserving and enhancing local
    habitat.
  • To educate residents, visitors and potential
    visitors on the unique aspects of the Southern
    California Desert Regions natural attractions.
