Influenza A (H1N1) virus

• Present outbreak has characteristics of avian,
  human, and swine viruses.
• Outbreak is believed to have started in Mexico,
  moving its way into the United States, Canada,
  and Europe.
• A number of deaths in Mexico.
• No deaths in the United States to date.
• Virus is prevalent in younger, healthy
  individuals and not restricted to
  immune-comprised individuals.

• Activated the State EOC at 0800 today (April 28)
  with limited staffing.
• Continual coordination with federal, state and
  local agencies.
• Continual contact with county emergency
  management/county health offices
• Continual contact with the U.S. Dept. of Homeland
  Security and U.S. Dept. of Health and Human
  Services.
• Daily conference calls.
• Roles in coordination
• Indiana State Dept. of Health is the lead.
• Indiana State Board of Animal Health is support.
• Right now, other agencies include
• Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of
  Transportation, and Indiana National Guard

• Review current COOP plans
• Essential personnel
• Records and services
• Effective and known line of succession to cover
  essential functions
• Communicate preventative health measures to
  employees
• Identify essential personnel capable of
  telecommuting and necessary equipment and
  connectivity.
• Protect your workforce.
• Promote good hygiene.
• Hand Sanitizers at your entry points.
• Send those who are sick home.
• Follow ISDH recommendations.
