3What is CIVITAS about?
- CIVITAS is looking for radical change
- Integrated demonstrations of technology
- and policy measures
- CIVITAS is about cities
- - Cities have to be in the core of the
- consortia relevant partnership
- - High political commitment
- - A reduced number of laboratories

- Large Scale Integrated Demonstration Projects
with leading and follower cities (Proposals
preferably by pairs of cities) - Independent Cross-site Evaluation External
Monitoring - European wide Dissemination
5CIVITAS measures (1)
- Energy-efficient cost effective clean vehicle
fleets for public and/or private transport - using alternative fuels (bio-fuels, natural gas,
hybrid vehicles) and innovative fuelling
infrastructure (mandatory) - Schemes for access control, permitting access
only to clean vehicles, walking cycling - Integrated pricing schemes
- Stimulating the use of collective passenger
transport

- New forms of vehicle use/ownership, less
car-dependant lifestyles - New concepts for the distribution of freight
- Innovative soft measures for managing
mobility demand - Integration of transport management systems,
information systems and passenger services
7What is new in CIVITAS II?
- Measures proposed are the same, BUT
- Increased emphasis on energy efficient and clean
vehicles and alternative fuels (biofuels, natural
gas) - Special attention to accessibility and security
of public transport systems - Encourage CEEC cities to become leader cities in
proposals
8What is new in CIVITAS II?
- Targeting medium size cities
- Projects should have a substantial size
- The learning dimension
- New CIVITAS cities will benefit from
participating in the CIVITAS Forum from the very
first moment - FP6 requires partners from 3 different countries
- Preferred Instruments IP for demo projects
