  • Education Session
  • Education session
  • Cardiovascular Fitness, Body Composition, and
    Blood were analyzed
  • The session was held at Fitness 2000 in Burnaby,
    conveniently located near North Road Medical.
    Discussion included the effects of exercise on
    type II diabetes as well as general exercise
    guidelines, emphasizing appropriate intensity,
    duration, technique and progression.
  • Our five participant group were supplied with
    workbooks and supervised by 2 Registered
    Kinesiologists. Emphasis was placed on patient
    independence and social cohesion.
  • Workbook information was introduced during the
    first session and reinforced each week during
    supervised sessions and follow up calls.
  • Goals
  • Provide the skills and knowledge required to
    Manage Diabetes through an independent exercise
    program.
  • Foster the confidence and support necessary to
    maintain a structured exercise program
  • Allow flexibility to increase adherence

  • Pre
  • An average of 2.4 limitations to daily living
    tasks was reported prior to the program.
  • 80 of patients reported never receiving exercise
    instruction education.
  • Post
  • Reported daily limitations decreased 50 to 1.2
    per patient.
  • 100 reported improved general health.
  • All participants reported feeling very
    comfortable and confident completing their
    assigned exercises independently.
