1(No Transcript)
2Gods Destination Our Destiny
- The nations will know that I am the LORD, when I
show myself holy through you before their eyes.
Ezekiel 3623
3Call to be a Holy Nation, Part I
- Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant,
then out of all nations you will be my treasured
possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you
will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy
nation. Exodus 195-6
4Call to be a Holy Nation, Part II
- But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood,
a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that
you may declare the praises of him who called you
out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once
you were not a people, but now you are the people
of God once you had not received mercy, but now
you have received mercy. 1 Peter 29-10
5Holiness What does it look like?
- To come close to the idea of perfection
- Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
Psalms 292 - To be set apart by definition
- To display his glory
- To have his fullness
6Set apart to fullness
- And He put all things under His feet, and gave
Him to be head over all things to the church,
which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills
all in all. Eph 122-23 - For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead
bodily and you are complete in Him, who is the
head of all principality and power. Col. 29-10
7Pathway to Destiny Rules?
- I found that the very commandment that was
intended to bring life actually brought death So
then, the law is holy We know that the law is
spiritual but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave
to sin. Romans 710-14
8Pathway to Destiny Rules?
- Therefore if you died with Christ from the basic
principles of the world, why, do you subject
yourselves to regulations-- Do not touch, do
not taste, do not handle, --according to the
doctrines of men? These things indeed have an
appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion,
false humility, and neglect of the body, but are
of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
Col. 220-23
9Pathway to Destiny Suffering
- Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs
of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we
share in his sufferings in order that we may also
share in his glory. I consider that our present
sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory
that will be revealed in us. Romans 817-18
10Pathway to Destiny Judgment
- The Lord will wash away the filth from Jerusalem
by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire.
Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion
and over those who assemble there a cloud of
smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night
over all the glory will be a canopy. It will be
a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and
a refuge and hiding-place from the storm and
rain. Isaiah 44-6
11Pathway to Destiny Grace
- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and
we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only
begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
And of His fullness we have all received, and
grace for grace. For the law was given through
Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus
Christ. John 114-17
12Possible to forfeit Grace
- When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you,
LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy
temple. Those who cling to worthless idols
forfeit the grace that could be theirs. Jonah 2
7-8
13Can respond wrong to Grace
- When your judgments come upon the earth, the
people of the world learn righteousness. Though
grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn
righteousness even in a land of uprightness they
go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of
the LORD. Isaiah 269-10
14The Beginning of Grace Unconditional Acceptance
- Because of his great love for us, God, who is
rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even
when we were dead in transgressions--it is by
grace you have been saved. And God raised us up
with Christ and seated us with him in the
heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that
in the coming ages he might show the incomparable
riches of his grace,
15The Beginning of Grace Unconditional Acceptance
- expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God-- not by works, so that no-one can
boast. For we are Gods workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared
in advance for us to do. Eph 24-10
16Fruit of Grace
- Not working for your salvation
- Now when a man works, his wages are not credited
to him as a gift, but as an obligation. However,
to the man who does not work but trusts God who
justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as
righteousness. Romans 44-5 - Ability to repent easily - nothing to prove
- See your sin and not go into a tail spin
17Fruit of Grace
- Ability to repent easily - nothing to prove
- See your sin and not go into a tail spin
- No condemnation
- Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus Romans 81 - Conviction
- When the Holy Spirit comes, he will convict
John 168
18Fruit of Grace
- Joy
- What has happened to all your joy? Galatians
415 - Living godly
- For the grace of God teaches us to say No to
ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live
self-controlled, upright and godly lives. Titus
211-12
19Fruit of Grace
- Releasing control
- Cast your cares on him, for he cares for you.
1Peter 57 - Your Father in heaven will give good gifts to
those who ask. So in everything, do unto others
and you would have them do unto you. Matthew
711-12
20Fruit of Grace
- Commands become promises
- I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit
in you I will remove from you your heart of
stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will
put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my
decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel
3626-27
21Fruit of Grace
- New motivation
- Freely you have received, freely give. Matt 108
- Walking in the Spirit
- So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not
gratify the desires of the sinful nature if you
are led by the Spirit, you are not under
lawSince we live by the Spirit, let us keep in
step with the Spirit. Galatians 516-25
22Accessing Grace
- Humility
- God opposes the proud but gives grace to the
humble. James 46 - Faith
- We have gained access into grace through faith
Romans 52
23Accessing Grace
- Approaching his throne of Grace
- Since we have a great high priest, Jesus, let us
hold firmly to our faith. For we have a high
priest who is able to sympathize with our
weaknesses, for he was tempted in every way, just
as we are--yet was without sin. Let us then
approach the throne of grace with confidence, so
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help
us in our time of need. Hebrews 414-16
24Accessing Grace
- And of His fullness we have all received, and
grace for grace. John 116 - Receive to take what is one's own, to take to
one's self, to make one's own - 1) to claim, procure, for one's self
- 2) of that which when taken is not let go, to
seize, to lay hold of, apprehend
