Title: STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Gold
1Ms. Livesays Class News
Week of October 29 November 2
Current Events We visited the
Indianapolis Zoo in the Distance Learning Lab and
saw the presentation Not-So-Scary Animals. They
learned about bats, sharks, snakes, rats, and
cockroaches. This event focused on understanding
the unique characteristics of animals so that
they are not so scary to the children. They were
very well behaved, asked great questions, and had
good participation. In Saxon Phonics, we had the
letter Ss. The children used their artistic
talents and painted a seahorse with watercolor
paints. They made a cute 3-D project of a
scarecrow. On Friday, we all enjoyed our Subway
sandwiches for lunch! This week in Math, they
worked on the AB pattern, position words such as
after, before, and between, pennies, and problem
solving. They also are finding the missing shape
and adding objects. In reading, we read the book
On the Go. Our song was The Wheels on the Bus
and poems were Go Iguana and My Bike. We
read a Japanese folk tale called Timimoto. The
vocabulary words were travel, journey, and sound
words. Our high frequency word was go. They
also had the letter Ii in phonics. Native
Americans have been the focus in Social Studies
this week. The children will be working on this
unit for the next two weeks. We will be making a
large teepee for our classroom. Also, we will
celebrate Thanksgiving by having a classroom
feast. More details to come! We will be
honoring our Veterans on Nov. 9. Please come and
join us. We finished our 17 page book called
The Road Trip. Each student gave directions to
explain how to get to his or her home. The book
also has their illustrations. It is really cute.
Copies are being made for each child. I hope
you enjoy it.
