7The remembrance of the holocaust
- The Victoria holocaust Remembrance and education
society was started eight years ago, almost
single-handedly, by Holocaust survivor Peter
Gary. He used to go round schools telling and
teaching children about his experiences of the
Holocaust. He was doing this on his own and was
not being paid, but he was determined to make
sure that nothing was forgotten and set up this
organisation, to teach young people about The
Holocaust.

- At the beginning of the holocaust, in March 1942,
a wave of mass murder swept across Europe. - In the next 11 months 4,500,000 human beings were
eliminated. - By the end of World War II the toll had risen to
approximately 6,000,000 Jews, which included
1,500,000 children, who were killed at the hands
of the Nazi murderers. - When the killing ended those who survived were
released from the concentration camps and came

What she had to say about the holocaust
I had a very difficult time, and I have to admit
it I cannot...I cannot forgive. I cannot
forgive, and I do blame...I blame the German
people a great deal because I felt that they were
passive, they turned away, they have the audacity
still today to say that they didn't know. I'm
sorry. That's unacceptable...that's
unacceptable...it can't possibly...how can you
not smell. They had to. They have to. And until
they own up to it, I'm sorry, I can't. _________
12How should the victims of the Holocaust be
remembered?
- We think that
- There should be a two minutes silence at noon on
the day that WW2 ended. - It is important to remember this event, so that
it will never happen again. - There should be a parade/celebration for the
survivors of the Holocaust.
