Sacrifice
  • The innocent (Jesus) taking upon Himself the sins
    of the guilty, paying the ultimate price to
    reconcile us back to God.

The Necessity of Blood
  • Leviticus 1711 For the life of the flesh is in
    the blood, and I have given it to you upon the
    altar to make atonement for your souls for it is
    the blood that makes atonement for the soul.'
  • Hebrews 922 In fact, the law requires that
    nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and
    without the shedding of blood there is no
    forgiveness.

  • 1. INDIVIDUAL Abel sacrificed a lamb.
  • Genesis 43-5 In the course of time Cain brought
    some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to
    the Lord. 4But Abel brought fat portions from
    some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord
    looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5but
    on Cain and his offering he did not look with
    favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was
    downcast.

  • Exodus 123 5-7 13 Tell the whole community of
    Israel that on the tenth day of this month each
    man is to take a lamb for his family, one for
    each householdThe animals you choose must be
    year-old males without defect, and you may take
    them from the sheep or the goats. 6Take care of
    them until the fourteenth day of the month, when
    all the people of the community of Israel must
    slaughter them at twilight. 7Then they are to
    take some of the blood and put it on the sides
    and tops of the doorframes of the houses where
    they eat the lambs The blood will be a sign for
    you on the houses where you are and when I see
    the blood, I will pass over you

  • 1 John 22 He (Jesus) is the atoning sacrifice
    for our sins, and not only for ours but also for
    the sins of the whole world.
  • 1 Cor. 57b For Christ, our Passover lamb, has
    been sacrificed.

    but that he loved us and sent his Son (Jesus) as
    an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

    sat down at the right hand of God.

  • 1 Cor. 1123-26 For I received from the Lord what
    I also passed on to you The Lord Jesus, on the
    night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he
    had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is
    my body, which is for you do this in remembrance
    of me." 25In the same way, after supper he took
    the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in
    my blood do this, whenever you drink it, in
    remembrance of me." 26For whenever you eat this
    bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's
    death until he comes.

  • Look Back and Remember! (v24) Do this in
    remembrance of me
  • Christs body was broken for us.
  • Christs blood was shed for us.

  • Look Within and Repent! (v28) A man ought to
    examine himself
  • Self-examination reveals our sin.
  • Self-examination encourages repentance.

  • Look Ahead and Rejoice! (v26) You proclaim
    the Lords death until He comes
  • In memorial and celebration.
  • In hope of His soon return.
