Certificate II and III in Business
- Trainees can complete either a Certificate II or
III in Business - School Based Trainees Certificate II in
Business or IT - Full Time Trainees Certificate II or III in
Business - Agency and Registered Training Organisation will
negotiate with Trainee to determine which
Certificate level is suitable - Each Certificate requires the trainee to complete
12 competencies

What Tasks Can a Business Trainee Complete?
- To achieve the competencies, a Trainee might
complete tasks such as - Filing/records
- Answering the telephone
- Distribute incoming mail and process outgoing
mail - Assist in setting up for events
- Assist in putting together information packs
- Data entry
- Mail outs mail merge
- General administration duties photocopying and
faxing

Business Traineeship Program
- Metropolitan based opportunities
- Trainees can commence at anytime during the year
- 12 Month Duration Full Time
- Trainees are paid a training wage
- 221.00 504.40 per week
- Wages depend on age, years out of school and
highest year of schooling completed

School Based Traineeship Program
- Metropolitan based opportunities for students
enrolled in Government Schools - Commence in February of each year (in Year 11)
- 2 Days Per Week, over 2 years
- Trainee wages
- Year 11 88.40 per week
- Year 12 97.20 per week
- Generally students who apply
- Complete a Vocational Education and Training
(VET) Program at school - Must be completing the lower units in a Course of
Study - Complete Structured Workplace Learning as well as
undertake the Traineeship

How to Apply for the BTP
- You can register clients at any time during the
year by emailing the following to
pwd_at_dpc.wa.gov.au - Registration Form
- Resume
- Recruitment Profile Form
- Candidates can also apply for the Program when
advertised (The West, www.jobs.wa.gov.au ) - Once candidates are registered, they are
eligible to be referred for traineeship
opportunities that arise

Referral Process - BTP
Applicants are Registered on the Traineeship
Database
Agency Submits a Request
Case Manager is Contacted
Interested and Suitable Candidates are Referred
Agency Short-Lists and will contact Case Manager
to arrange an interview
Agency will notify candidate/Case Manager of
Selection Outcome
If Candidate isnt successful they remain of the
database

How to Apply for a School Based Traineeship
- School Based Traineeships (2 Days per week)
- The School Based Traineeship Program is
advertised once a year (mid year) - Students must liaise with their VET Coordinator
at their school and submit the following - Application Form
- Resume
- All applicants will then be invited to attend an
interview - Students will be deemed successful or
unsuccessful for referral - If successful, students will then be referred to
agencies for further assessment

Tips Preparing Clients for Traineeship Interviews
- Find out about the Traineeship
- What is a Traineeship?
- What does the agency do?
- www.wa.gov.au/agencies
- Prepare Your Client Get Them To
- List 5 questions they think they might be asked
- Prepare answers to these questions and give
examples - Think of 1 or 2 questions you will ask
- Bring Their Portfolio
- Their portfolio should be neatly presented in a
folder and may include - A current Resume, School Reports, certificates
of achievement, qualifications completed etc - Show Enthusiasm and Interest
- Agencies are often looking for a genuine interest
and enthusiasm for the job
