not-for-profit group or event
5What is SESA?
- Student Education and Service Ambassadors
- A student organization on campus that helps
coordinate those who need volunteer help with
those who are willing to give their volunteer
service. - Because you are receiving a scholarship that
requires a service component, you are
automatically a member of this student service
organization.
6What exactly is required?
- 15 volunteer service hours per semester
- Fall Semester
- Beginning in August
- Ending December 18
- Spring Semester
- Beginning in January
- Ending May 18
7Are there restrictions?
- Yes.
- You must complete 3 hours of career development,
5 hours of campus service, and 7 hours of
community service and/or leadership development. - Make a semester long commitment to an
organization where you volunteer at least once a
week for an hour for 15 weeks.
8How do you know an opportunity will qualify?
- It will automatically qualify if it was posted on
the SESA Bulletin Board or website. - It will generally qualify if it it came through
the Student Activities office. - It can qualify if it is pre-approved by Heather.
9Are you already doing something that can count?
- Possibly, if you are
- A member of a student group and participate in
its executive sessions and help plan events. - Tutoring someone
- Others?

13How do I actually go through the process?
- First you need to decide what event you would
like to volunteer for. - If the event was found on a sign up sheet on the
bulletin board, then sign up and note whether you
will need to show up at the event at the
appointed time, or if someone will follow up with
you. If it does not say someone will follow up
with you, you are to just show up ready to go. - Or tear a section with the name and of the
contact person and make arrangements to
volunteer. - If necessary, gain pre-approval from Heather.
14How do I actually go through the process?
- Then take a verification form with you to the
event. They are available on Heathers door,
Room 303D or on the SESA website. - After the event have the supervisor of the event
sign and date it. Please make sure you can read
the supervisor's name for future reference. - Finally, turn in the completed verification form
to Heather, either in her office or in the
Student Activities office. This is the only way
to verify your hours.
15What is the Verification Form?
- It is the full-sheet form on colored paper that
you will use to record the volunteer activities
you are doing. - It can be found on the SESA website, Heathers
door (303D), or on the counter in the Student
Activities office (305B). - Please refer to the hand-out.
16How do I verify how many hours I have done each
semester?
- In the middle of each month (beginning with
September and February of each semester), Heather
will post an updated list of the hours you have
turned in on the SESA bulletin board. - When you have completed the 15 hours each
semester, you will receive a letter notifying you
of that milestone.
17D.E.T.A.I.L.S.
- Also known as a development transcript...
- D.E.T.A.I.L.S. is an activity transcript that
provides a way to document your non-academic
activities. - Done by Heather when you request it (it is not
done automatically when you request your academic
transcript--they are unrelated). - Information is taken from your verification forms
(incentive to do them correctly!).
18Other Milestones to work for
- If you complete 100 hours of service, you will
receive a plaque at the recognition evening at
the end of the year.
19What if you cant get the hours done?
- Do not ignore it if you are struggling Heather
can help you work it out if you let her. - We have been able to help every student complete
his or her requirement who wanted to complete it.
We have confidence that this streak will
continue.
20What if I already have my hours done?
- Make sure all of your forms have been turned in
and that you have received the confirmation
letter from Heather. - You can continue to give of yourself and turn in
the formsyou no longer have to worry about what
qualifies. - However, you still must wait until the next
semester to begin doing your service for that
semester.
21Summary
- You must complete at least 15 hours of volunteer
service per semester. - There are many ways to accomplish this.
