3John Cabot
Giovanni Caboto or John Cabot as he is known in
the English world was born at Genoa Italy in
1450. The Caboto family moved to Venice in 1461,
where a young Giovanni worked with his father in
spice for many years. When Giovanni Caboto set
sail from Bristol England On May 2, 1497 he was
not expected to bumb into New Found land .
4Ferdinand Magellan
The first circumnavigator of the real world, was
born about 1480 at Saborasa in Ville Real,
Province of Traz os Montes. In 1505, he took part
in the expedition Francisco d Almeida. He died
during his voyage of discovery of the Island of
Mactan in the Philippines April, 27, 1521
5Henry Hudson
Hudsons first search for the North West
passage in 1609. In 1610 a group of London
merchants, later to be known as The
Adventures, set Henry out on the Discovery to
search for a route to the Orient. Hudson entered
Hudson strait and explored the its southern
shores. He continued along southwards to the
head of James Bay, where the Discovery was frozen
in for the winter.
6Leif Eriksson
Leif was born in Iceland sometime around 960
A.D.. His father Erik the Red moved to Ice land
when Leifs grandfather, Thorvald was expelled
from Norway for killing a man during a dispute.
Like many Viking boys, Leif spent most of his
time away form home. He would often watch the
ships come into the harbour of his Iceland home
and listen to the sailors tales of adventure.
7Marco Polo
Marco Polo was a Italian voyager and merchant who
was one of the first Europeans to travel across
Asia through China. He left in 1271 with his
father and uncle. They spent about 24 years
traveling.
