Pistol Shooting Program
  • Revolver or semi-automatic are approved
  • Training and competition are permitted for timed,
    slow and rapid fire
  • All firing done from the 25 yard line
  • Only Bull's-eye targets permitted (B-13
    preferred)
  • One or two handed shooting in training or
    competition is optional

  • Combat style or PPC shooting is not condoned,
    sanctioned or promoted
  • All training and shooting under supervision of
    NRA-certified instructor or departments firearms
    instructor
  • Explorers must have completed basic pistol
    marksmanship course before actual firing of weapon

Covert Operations
  • In the past, stories of Law Enforcement post
    members being utilized in operations concerning
    the purchase of prohibited items by minors
    surfaced.
  • In some cases, the agency approached the post and
    proposed it to be a post project. In others, the
    Explorers were used with other youths who werent
    Explorers.

Covert Operations
  • The National Law Enforcement Exploring Committee
    prohibits the use of Explorers to perform covert
    acts or acts that might undermine the role of Law
    Enforcement Exploring in the community or place
    Explorers in harms way

  • Any agency electing to utilize Explorers as
    private citizens in covert operations should do
    so with clear understanding that their unit of
    government is solely responsible for any civil
    damages and legal or medical complications that
    might arise from such activity

  • Law enforcement agencies participating in the
    Law Enforcement Exploring program should develop
    explicit guidelines and standard operating
    procedures concerning all activities in which
    their Explorers are involved and those from which
    they should be prohibited

NO LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPLORER, WHETHER IN UNIFORM
OR NOT, SHOULD DRIVE A MARKED PATROL VEHICLE.
  • Except during authorized competitions in which an
    adult law enforcement official shall ride in the
    front passenger seat.

  • There must be two deep leadership on all trips
    and on all activities
  • No one-on-one contact with Explorers
  • Respect privacy of your Explorers
  • Provide separate accommodations for Advisors and
    Explorers and for males and females on overnight
    events

    especially those with safety risks
  • Secret organizations are not permitted
  • Appropriate standards for attire should be upheld
  • Proper training, supervision and monitoring of

    not to be vaccinated, a Declination form should

  • This includes events for the same local Learning
    for Life office, neighboring offices, the same
    regional office, or offices in other regions
  • Posts that wish to host events involving other
    posts must have the approval of the local
    Learning for Life office

  • The proposed post event must contribute directly
    or indirectly to strengthening the programs of
    the participating posts
  • The proposal, including a written statement of
    the objectives of the event, must be submitted to
    the Local Learning for Life executive for approval

Objectives of the event
  • Provide an opportunity to substantially enrich
    the program of each Law Enforcement post
  • Promote an exchange of successful post program
    ideas
  • Encourage posts to incorporate the five areas of
    program emphasis (career opportunities, life
    skills, service learning, character education and
    leadership experience) into their post program
    planning
  • Give Explorers an opportunity for recreational
    and social activities and for having fun

  • If posts from Learning for Life offices within
    same region will be involved, the Learning for
    Life executive must forward the proposal to
    regional for its approval
  • If a post or posts from other regions will be
    involved, the proposal must be forwarded to the
    Learning for Life national office for review and
    approval

  • Law Enforcement Ride-Along Certification Program
    is administered by the International Association
    of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
  • Explorer posts must provide a completed copy of
    the ride-along certification application and two
    sets of the agencys ride-along guidelines,
    including all restrictions, training
    requirements, and other provisions
