Buying Speakers for Your Car Things to Consider
2
  • If you love to listen to high quality audio files
when travelling in your car, then you will need
to have some good speakers. They will ensure that
you listen to the highest quality versions of
your audio files, without interference or
crossover. Below, we will discuss a number of
considerations that you should be making
    concerning your car's speakers.
  • Factory vs Aftermarket Speakers
  • Unless you own a top-of-the-range Audi, or
Mercedes, or other top-brand car, then the
speakers that the manufacturers fit will be
subpar. This is because the manufacturers spend
so much time and money making the actual car that
they scrimp on the extras, such as the speakers
    and stereo.

3
  • If you want to listen to a high quality stereo
and speaker system in your car, then you will
need to change the factory-installed models of
both the speakers and the stereos.
  • Components vs Coaxial Speakers
  • So, youve decided to go ahead and change the
speakers. Now, your first consideration is
between coaxial and component speakers. Lets
explore this topic a little more.

4
  • There are three types of speaker
  • The tweeters these produce the high frequency
sounds. They are relatively small. You will need
two such speakers, one for each side of the car.
  • The woofers these produce the mid frequency
sounds. They are of a medium size. Again, you
will need two speakers, one for each side.
  • The sub-woofer these produce the low frequency
sounds. The bass sounds. You dont necessarily
need one in your car, and very few people have
them. You only need one subwoofer, which you
place in the middle of the car, but usually in
    the boot.

5
  • OK, so what are component and coaxial
    speakers?
  • Both of these terms simply refer to the
arrangement of the woofer and the tweeters (both
    ignore the sub-woofer).
  • Coaxial speakers here, the tweeters and the
woofer are combined into a single casing. You
then place this single unit in the car, usually
within the door. Theyre very popular in cars
because they take up the least amount of room in
comparison to component speakers. However, they
are slightly lower quality and can suffer from
issues such as crossover and interference.

  • In Car Speakers

7
  • Component speakers here, the tweeters and
the woofer have their own casings. They are two
distinct speakers. You would need to place two
speakers in each side of the car, so you will
have at least four speakers. Clearly, this will
take up a lot more room than the coaxial
speakers. However, as far as in car speakers go,
they produce by far the highest quality audio.
  •
  • If you're a music buff, you will probably be
able to tell the difference between the two types
of speakers, and so you will prefer component
speakers. However, you might need to make some
modifications to your car in order to accommodate
    these in car speakers.
  •

  • Finally, we said that you would need at
least two speakers for the coaxial (one on each
side) and four for the components (two on each
side), but you might want to install speakers in
the back of the car, as well as in the front.
When choosing your speakers, think about how many
you will need and which type is a better fit
given the space and the sound quality you expect.
