2Our Prime Directive for Implementing NBC Future
Architecture
"Eleven years after the end of the cold war, we
are in a time of transition and testing, when it
will be decided what dangers draw near or pass
away, what tragedies are invited or averted. We
must use this time well we must seize this
moment. First, we must prepare our nation against
the dangers of a new era. The grave threat from
nuclear, biological and chemical weapons has not
gone away with the cold war, it has evolved into
many separate threats, some of them harder to see
and harder to answer, and the adversaries seeking
these tools of terror are less predictable, more
diverse. With advanced technology, we must
confront the threats that come on a missile. With
shared intelligence and enforcement, we must
confront the threats that come in a shipping
container or in a suitcase. We have no higher
priority than the defense of our people against
terrorist attack." President George W. Bush,

- Place Obscurants at the Tip of the Spear via
RoboticsRapid and Controlled - Integrate Existing Technologies for Supporting
Interim ? Objective Force Needs - M56 (317 Systems Fielded Jan 01, 1784 TPO)
- Rapid Obscurant System (32 LVOSS)
- Robotics (JPO-UGV Common System)
- DVE Thermal IR and Visual Cameras
ASAP Integrate NBC Sensors for Multi-Functional
Capability
5Phase 1 UGVROP CEP
Purpose Prove the concept works. Accomplished
Trained soldiers (Non-54B) to operate UGVROP
in support of dismounted and mounted forces
entry into hostile MOUT. Status CEP complete 18

7Phase 2 NBC Sensor Integration
Purpose Integrate NBC sensors to UGVROP for
multi-purpose robotics platform
evaluation. Status Acquired MICAD and suite of
sensors. Preliminary test successful with
sensors seen through visual cameras. Required
Integration of sensors through STS OCU.

8Phase 3 Second UGVROP
Purpose Build a second UGVROP to support
future evaluations and validate MSBL simulations
and modeling. Status 2nd LVOSS
bracket fabricated. 2nd M56 to GDRS for
integration of STS package, Pending award of
contract.
The graduation exercise will be an obstacle
breach in a MOUT environment.
9Phase 4 C2 from Supporting Platform
Purpose Command and Control multiple
UGVROPs from LAV III or FOX to support future
evaluations and validate MSBL simulations and
modeling. Status Negotiations ongoing for
support if/when equipment becomes available.
