Raccoon Lake Task Force Vision Statement and Goals
  • The Vision of the Raccoon Lake Restoration Task
    Force is to preserve our main water source as
    well as develop and fully utilize a beautiful
    natural asset that will create recreational
    opportunities improving the quality of life of
    the Greater Centralia Area as well as create
    opportunities for quality housing development to
    attract residents to the area.

  • Applications to include 3 settling basins and a
    sediment trap
  • Within approximately 6 weeks (July 1) we should
    be submitting the permit applications to

Scope of Dredging
  • The Lake needs 2.9 million cubic yards of volume
    to restore to its original configuration
  • An additional 0.50 million cubic yards of volume
    will be removed for the sediment trap
  • Shoreline restoration of 3,000 feet by
    constructing seawalls

  • Dredging of Lake (Removal of 2.9 Million Cubic
    Yards of Silt), Land Acquisition and Construction
    of Settling Basins - 16,000,000
  • Construction of Sediment Trap inside Lake -
    2,000,000
  • Shoreline Protection - 1,000,000
  • Contingency - 1,000,000
  • Total Project Cost of 20,000,000
  • Based on 2003 study and subsequent comparisons
    to Lake Decatur, Springfield Lake and Lake
    Schaeffer (Indiana)

Wetland Delineation
  • Has been completed for the entire Lake and Lake
    boundary
  • Has been completed for all 3 Settling Basins
  • Using US Army Corps of Engineers ratios, we have
    identified the areas of removal around the
    perimeter of the Lake and the resultant
    replacement areas
  • Staff, in conjunction with the Engineer, has
    proposed a system of canals

I.E.P.A. 319 Grant
  • Grant Amount was 2.5 million
  • The submittal focused on 3,000 feet of shoreline
    protection (800,000 and construction of the 3
    sediment traps (1,750,000)
  • It was submitted in July 2006
  • We were notified that we did not receive the
    grant in January 2007
  • Re-submittal is due this summer. Comments
    received include special emphasis on upland Best
    Management Practices (BMPs)

Direct Appropriation
  • Task Force has been working with Bill Houlihan of
    Sen. Durbins office since 2005
  • Funding Letter was submitted in December 2005
  • All Direct Appropriations were postponed in 2006
