Title: Sterling North

Rascal
  • Sterling North

2
A boy and his raccoon.
  • This book is about a boy named Sterling and his
little raccoon that he found in the woods one
    day.
  • Sterling named his raccoon Rascal and they played
together like brothers the entire summer.
  • But Sterlings neighbors werent so happy when
Rascal started to invade their property so they
wanted him in a cage locked up.
  • Sterlings dad was a man that traveled all the
time so he took Rascal and Sterling on a trip to
get away from town a little bit.
  • Sterling didnt want Rascal to be locked up so he
took him back to his family and home.
  • Also Rascal scared the lynx off at the end of
    the story.

3
Theme
  • I think the theme is dont ever think a raccoon
    cant be a best friend.

4
Plot
  • One of my favorite parts in the story is when
Rascal helps Sterling win a pie eating contest.
  • Another part I like is when Rascal, Sterling, and
    Sterlings dad go camping.
  • There is also a part where Sterling has his canoe
in the living room and the house is a mess.
  • Another part in the story that I like is when the
find Rascal in the log and take him home.
  • The last part in the story is when Sterling rides
his canoe to the woods and takes Rascal home to
    his family.

5
Setting
  • The setting is in many different places such as
the woods, the river, the city, and Sterlings
home. Must of all its in Sterlings home or the
woods. The timeline was May through April. It was
mostly summer in that time or Sterling and Rascal
wouldnt played all day. So the setting is mostly
at Sterlings house or the woods in summer.

Vocab Words
  • Eminence- From our eminence above Chequamegon Bay
we could see several of the Apostle Islands
blending into the far distance. It means the
position they are in. A position of prominence or
    superiority.
  • Rivulet- In a little pool made by an entering
rivulet, my raccoon caught a gleaming minnow
which proved to be a trout- dappled with color.
It looks like a stream by its a pool. A stream.
  • Surmise- We came upon Lake Superior with similar
astonishment and wild surmise- an entire ocean
stretching far beyond the horizon. A thought. A
thought or idea based on scanty evidence.
  • Agates- The beaches of Lake Superior are strewn
with agates. It means colors along the beach. a
    fine-grained variegated chalcedony having its
colors arranged in stripes, blended in clouds ,
    or showing moss like forms.
  • Subsequent- On subsequent nights he took similar
French leave. It means time. Following in time,
    order, or place

World War 1
  • It mostly took place in Europe between 1914 and
    1918
  • More than nine million soldiers died!
  • The Allied Powers, led by France, Russia, the
British Empire, and later Italy and the United
    States, defeated the Central Powers.
  • The war caused the disintegration of four
    empires the Austro-Hungarian, German, Ottoman,
    and Russian
  • The results of World War I would be important
factors in the development of World War II 21
    years later.

Compare and Contrast

Review
  • I think the author would fell happy if he had a
raccoon for a pet because all the good things he
puts in the book would show it. But there are
also bad things he puts in the book like eating
the neighbors corn. So it can go either way if he
wants to keep a pet or not. I think he would
still keep one though since he writes good things
than bad. But who doesnt want a raccoon as a
    pet.
