Viscount Castlereagh Delegate of Great Britain

• Born in 1769 in country down, Irleand
• Committed suicide by slitting his throat in 1822.
• Attended university of Cambridge.
• He was a member of the Irish Parliament.
• British house of Commons.
• In 1796 Given title of Viscount Castleraegh.

Viscount continued

• Chief secretary for Ireland from 1799 death
• .Castlereagh strongly believes that in order to
  maintain peace the settlement must establish a
  balance of power in Europe. Especially in France
  and Russia. In doing this he intends to serve as
  a mediator between the continental powers of
  Europe, smoothing out their differences to create
  harmony and lasting security.

Poland

• Alexander 1 wanted Poland a independent state and
  him as king, Castlereagh does not believe that
  Alexander would ever actually let a polish
  kingdom to be truly indapendent from Russia.
• Castlereagh believes that he will treat Poland
  as a puppet state and will station his armies in
  the heart of Europe, within striking distances of
  both Berlin and Vienna, the capitols of Prussia
  and Austria.
• So Castlereagh proposes that Poland restored is
  status under the 1795 partition, divided between
  Russia, Austria and Prussia.

George III

• He was born on June 4, 1738 in London, first son
  of Fredrick, Prince of Wales and died January
  29, 1820.
• He became king of Great Britain and Ireland in
  1760-1820.

Saxony

• Castlereagh would like to see all of Saxony
  returned to its legitimate ruler king Fredrick
  Augustus but he knows that Fredrick William III
  desperately wants to rule all of Saxony.
• A larger Prussia would support Castlereaghs
  plan for a strong German bloc to resist France
  and Russia. So Castlereagh wants to give Saxony
  to Prussia

Netherlands

• Castlereagh believes that it is essential to have
  a strong nation on Frances northeastern border.
  So he proposes to join the former Austrian
  Netherlands with Holland to create the Kingdom of
  the Netherlands ruled by William of the Orange.
• He wants this to uphold a balance of power by
  creating a larger state on the French border. He
  wants to establish a friendly relationship wit
  the Netherlands and prevent France from ever
  gaining control of Antwerp.

• He wants to establish a strong German union to
  protect the rest of Europe from French
  aggression.
• he wants to give the territory west and east of
  the Rhine river to Prussia as a buffer for future
  French attack.

Italy

• He doesnt have any strong views of Italy. He
  wants to give parts of Italy to compensate
  Austria with the territory for there sacrifices
  in the wars.

Scandinavia

• If Sweden is wiling to accept Norway in exchange
  for losing Finland to Russia, Great Britain will
  not object to giving Scandinavia to Russia.

Switzerland

• Castlereagh favors recognition of Swiss
  neutrality. He thinks that other countries should
  agree as well.

Spain/Portugal

• He favors returning the lagitamite rulers to
  their thrones the bourbon king in Spain and
  Brogans prince in Portugal.
