Title: The Turkey Teacher Contest
1The Turkey Teacher Contest!
- North Forsyth High School
2Were getting ready to gobble!
3Your teachers are competing
- For the title Turkey Teacher of North Forsyth
High School 2007
4To become Turkey Teachergobble, gobble,
gobbleyour teacher must
- Raise more money than the other teachers at NFHS.
5When will this happen?
- Collections in every class begin Wednesday,
November 7, and continue through Tuesday,
November 20. - Each day, your teacher will ask for cash, checks
made out to North Forsyth High School and
coins, too.
6What then?
- Your teacher counts the money and sends to Mrs.
Holland every day. - Mrs. Holland will NOT disclose how much money
individual teachers collect, but she may tell who
the front runners are through the campaign.
7Whats the money used for?
- A part of the money (1500) will be used by the Y
Club, a great service club, throughout the year
for service projects and for bus transportation
to conferences.
8- The rest of the money will be used for
compassionate care for those suffering from
HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.
9What is our Turkey Teacher history at NFHS?
- Last year we met the Y Clubs goal AND we raised
5029 for the hungry in Africa. - Over the last 7 years, weve earned around
35,000 in Turkey Teacher, which has gone around
the world helping those in need.
10Why do we send the money to other countries?
- Because the need is so great.
- AIDS has killed at least 25 million people
worldwide, and another 42 million are living with
AIDS or HIV infection. - To put those numbers in stark perspective,
imagine the population of Texas dead and
California's residents slowly dying. - (www.samaritanspurse.com)
11Population of Texas dead and the whole state of
California dying.
12Okay, so how does it work?
- First, your teacher needs a collection
container.maybe one from the Y Club.maybe one
you create for your teacher.
13- Second, the teacher passes the collection
container in your class and every other
one.every day. - Next, the money and checks are counted and
recorded. - Then, your teacher turns in the money and checks
to Mrs. Holland in room 831.
14What makes it fun?
- Maybe your teacher will allow his classes to
compete.in a friendly way of coursefor top
honors. - Sometimes the top earning class of a teacher will
enjoy a privilege the others do not like a
tasty treat? - Sometimes teachers set a goal and rewards
students for reaching that goal together.
15Why should I ask my parents if they would like to
give?
- Because they will be delighted that you are
asking for the sake of others. - Because they may have been looking for avenues to
give charitably already, and this cause is a good
one.
16- Because their giving is tax deductible, whether
for their personal income tax reporting or for a
business donation. - Because you will never know if they would like to
pitch in unless you ask.
17What if I just cant give much?
- Just like the people we are trying to help in
other lands, we value you for who you are, not
for what you can give. - Just participate at the level that you are able
to, because your class is a team, working
together for a good thing!
18Are there prizes for my teacher?
- We hope so! The Y Club is offering
- 50 cash for the top teacher, the TURKEY TEACHER
of NFHS - 40 for second place
- 25 for third, fourth, and fifth place
- ALSO, the teacher who raises the most money will
receive 50 to be spent to reward his/her
students for their generosity.
