  • All nouns are either feminine or masculine,
    whether they refer to a person, place, thing, or
    quality.
  • Nouns are usually preceded by an article - EVEN
    IN CASES WHERE THE ARTICLE MIGHT NOT BE USED IN
    ENGLISH.

GENDER -masculine
  • Most nouns ending in -o are masculine
  • el libro (the book)
  • Some exceptions include
  • la mano (the hand)
  • la moto (the motorcycle)
  • Some nouns ending in -ma which refer to
    non-concrete things are masculine
  • el clima (the climate), el drama (the drama),
    el idioma (the language), el problema (the
    problem), el programa (the program), el sistema
    (the system), el tema (the theme)

  • Most nouns ending in -a are feminine
  • la mesa (the table)
  • Some exceptions include
  • el mapa (the map)
  • el día (the day)
  • All nouns ending in -ión, -dad, -tad, -tud,
    -umbre are feminine
  • la estación (the station), la ciudad (the
    city),
  • la libertad (liberty), la juventud (youth),
  • la muchedumbre (the crowd)

    masculine,singular nouns when you need to say
    the noun.
  • El amigo, el libro, el béisbol (the friend, the
    book, baseball)
  • La is the definite article that precedes
    feminine, singular nouns when you need to say
    the noun.
  • La amiga, la pizza, la clase (the friend, the
    pizza, the class)
