3A Healthier Community for All.
- Eliminating the number of SOVs on Campus through
alternative transportation. - A stronger sense of Campus community can be
created through promoting bicycle and pedestrian
friendly commute strategies.
2
4Promoting Alternative Transportation through IMP
- The IMP should include plans for
- A University Bus Pass
- More Bike Racks
- Inter-Campus Bike Path
- Adopting of this program would reduce level of
Student SOVs
3
5Todays Situation
- 70 of SOV commuters are students
- WTA student ridership increased 114 from 92-98
- Ridership on Campus Express increased 130
between Fall 97-98 - WWU commuters parking shifted toward downtown.
- Insufficient support of Biking as a commute
option.
4
6Bicycle Overcrowding

7UNIVERSITY BUS PASS
- A viable cost effective solution
- Option to bill students as mandatory, default,
optional - Cost to students is higher if it is optional
- If mandatory, then must bill employees at same
or higher rate as students - Amount Students are willing to pay depends of
Services provided.
8Student Attitudes Regarding Bus Pass
Students strongly disagree with the mandatory fee
Students were most interested in bus service that
included expanded services and indicated a
willingness to pay 20-34 dollars for this service
Busses going later was a concern for the majority
of students surveyed.
9Bus Pass Recommendations
- Determine a Viable Fee Option for D
- Implement an Awareness Raising Campaign about
the Bus Pass - Put the Program to Student Vote
- Create and Execute a Bus Pass Program.
7
10Light and Cover the current bike racks.
- Reduces vandalism
- Preserve Longevity of Bikes by keeping them out
of elements. - 75 of students felt this was important
6
11Biking Recommendations
- 1 bike spot per student in residence hall areas.
- Cover for bike racks that are wide enough and
broad enough to cover the racks - Create an Inter-Campus bike path behind Old Main
next to Sehome hill. - Makes a North-South Connector
- Reduces Pedestrian Cyclist interface.
