Budget Update
  • 100 million shortfall - reduction must be
    identified by February 15th
  • Further shortfall is estimated based on the
    Governors 08-09 Budget Report (14 billion
    shortfall)
  • 40-50 million by June
  • Up to 500 million next year
  • District will be looking at both short-term and
    long-term recommendations to address the
    shortfall

  • Richard Hickcox and and the staff at Solano
    Elementary School for being identified as one of
    42 LAUSD schools to receive recognition as an
    07-08 State Title 1 Academic Achievement Award
    Schools.

  • Susan Saenz and the staff from Griffin Elementary
    School for receiving a certificate of recognition
    for the 2007 California Fit Business Bronze
    Award from the State of California Senate on
    November 8, 2007. The Bronze Award is given in
    special recognition of the significant
    contribution and exceptional commitment to
    promoting and encouraging health and fitness in
    the workplace.

  • Ileana Davalos, principal at Eastman Elementary
    School, for being recognized by the California
    Kindergarten Association for her leadership and
    support of kindergarten teachers. The Judith A.
    Brown Administrative Recognition Award will be
    presented to Ileana on January 19th in Santa
    Clara at the California Kindergarten Association
    Conference.

  • Eufrosino Espinoza and the staff
  • from Hooper Elementary
  • for their Proficient and Advanced Event held on
    Saturday, December 1, 2007. At the event Hooper
    Elementary recognized the students on tracks A,
    B, and C who scored proficient and advanced on
    the CST. The event was a happy occasion for
    students and parents. The Hooper Elementary
    School staff believes that Whatever it takes,
    our students are worth it.

  • Maria Borges, Principal, and Ron Taw, Math Coach
    at LA Academy. On December 6th , LAAMS held its
    Family Math and Science Night. More than 50
    families attended the event. Eighteen math and
    science activity booths were available for fun
    and learning experiences. Numerous positive
    comments from parents, students and staff were
    received.

  • Manuel Diaz and the Choral Music and Instrumental
    Music students from Nightingale MS. Their Winter
    Concert held on December 12th, under the
    direction of Desiree Fowler and Jennifer Elliott,
    was a spectacular success.

  • Jane Urbina and the staff from Albion Elementary
    on their celebration to commemorate 80 years of a
    partnership with Beverly Hills HS. The event
    took place on December 13th. In attendance were
    the Superintendent of Beverly Hills Unified
    School District, Joseph . A special thanks to
    Stacey Michaels and Frank Cooper, teachers who
    planned, organized and coordinated this special
    event.

    their great performance at the New Years
    Tournament of Roses on January 1st. Special
    congratulations to our own

    Sereno Middle School.

Congratulations
  • Richard Chavez and the staff from Santee High
    School which was notified that the school was the
    winner of the 2007 Los Angeles Clippers Read to
    Achieve Contest in the High School Division.
    Santee was rewarded by a visit from a Los Angeles
    Clippers player on January 11th who read to the
    students and distributed Clippers T-shirts and
    other special items.

  • principal at Robert Hill Lane Elementary School
    for taking the next steps into a work-free,
    stress-free and adventurous new chapter in her
    life. Emma will be retiring at the end of this
    month.
