- BIG 159
- Dynamic Data Revolution 163
- FIST 184
- IDS 146
- Infinite Analysis 159
4Cover Page Challenge
- We still have to figure out a good cover page
layout. - It is very confusing.
5Agenda
- Form
- Feedback is here
- Content
- Feedback is in the deliverables
6Form
- Form will always be made up of the same
components and always be worth 40 points - However, depending on the deliverable, the
components will be weighted differently - In this deliverable we had the following
- Cover Page 15 points
- Look and Feel 20 points
- Organized 5 points
7Form
- In future deliverables, as the Cover Page and
Look and Feel stabilize, Organized will
become more and more important - Each time I score these components out of 10
and then take the so-called weighted average
scaled to 40 points - What follows illustrates how this is done
- It also provides feedback that may be useful to
you
8Plan for Scoring Form
- Score Cover Page (out of 10) giving specific
feedback - Summarize this score in a Bottom Line
- Score Look and Feel (out of 10) giving specific
feedback - Summarize this score in a Bottom Line
- Score Organized (out of 10) giving specific
feedback (without summarizing) in a Bottom Line
- Score Form (out of 40)
- Compute weighted average and scale it to 40 points
91. Score Cover Page (out of 10 points)
- BIG Huge disappointment, not up to high
standards set in prior deliverable but great
recovery thanks to John Katayamas insistence on
adherence to these standards, again demonstrating
his professionalism and non-student attitude
this cover page is an excellent standard for
internal deliverables (available upon request)
John showed commitment to his teammates
individual expectations shows strong
determination, concern for team quality, and
leadership 10 points (please note that for me,
at times, the process is far more important than
the end product this is an example) - Dynamic Data Revolution good ranking of
information in order of importance, created new
name and logo, used long-titles (a class first)
to excellent effect shows adaptability and
radical improvement 10 points
101. Score Cover Page (out of 10 points)
- FIST Very boxy, but it could grow on you logo
is great, but name-plus-acronym looks busy (this
needs more work), got rid of two-tone scheme and
thereby improved overall look and feel,
incorporated feedback well, but slightly out done
by peers (for example couldve made use of long
titles shows good continuous improvement, but
not quite as good as peers 8 points - IDS Very nice change in color scheme the use
of shading in the team name throws the color
scheme off a bit, otherwise very clean titles
not sufficiently informative good use of client
logo, excellent motto and well placed on back
cover shows good radical improvement 9 points
111. Score Cover Page (out of 10 points)
- Infinite Analysis Very clean good consistency
with prior Cover Pages system name could be
displayed more prominently, otherwise good
ranking of importance of items very creative
naming date adds little extremely good use of
long titles paper quality is best in class and
creates a very positive impression shows
excellent continuous improvement 10 points
121. Bottom Line Cover Page (out of 10)
- BIG 10 points Shows strong determination,
concern for team quality, and leadership! - Dynamic Data Revolution 10 points Shows
adaptability and radical improvement - FIST 8 points Shows good continuous
improvement, but not quite as good as peers - IDS 9 points Shows good radical improvement
- Infinite Analysis 10 points Shows excellent
continuous improvement
132. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- BIG print in cover letter is too small Exec
Sum has too much white space, could move
paragraph down, dido client profile good
consistency from page to page (at first), suggest
using team logo in each page to anchor brand
work plan is not framed inside the page well and
has no title, excellent display of financial
data, but page numbering changed excellent use
of color in the Gantt Chart shows good work
from individual team members, but not enough
consistency from one work product to the next 7
points
142. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Dynamic Data Revolution nicely bound cover
page has a good weight, but not as good as Best
in Class (Infinity Analysis) document feels
substantial logo in back needs work, but nice
soft line in bottom to frame it awesome letter
head, but date to far up, also consider fully
justifying the body of the letter, excellent
paper quality here! the line on top of each page
is not consistent across the document, also
consider placing your logo here to anchor your
brand. . .
152. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Dynamic Data Revolution . . . Executive Summary
needs to be better place on the page, suggest
also fully justifying the paragraphs and not
indenting the first one excellent use of page
numbering beautiful Table of Contents, a little
stuffed in the last section, consider breaking
that into two or more pieces , also suggest bring
the entire thing down a bit to better frame it in
the page . . .
162. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Dynamic Data Revolution . . . Titles Executive
Summary and Table of Contents are not
consistent good use of Organizational Chart in
client Profile, but you have the title Client
Profile twice and neither is consistent with
prior titles the date on top of each page is
effective System Request should start at the top
of the page pages from page 12 on do not have
top line, that may be okay when you have
graphics, but not when you start out with text
the Exhibits could be better framed . . .
172. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Dynamic Data Revolution . . . good use of color
in Exhibit 3, but tables could be better framed
in the page page 18 is extremely good, very
clear and informative, awesome use of color and
arrows good use of color in the work plan,
consider playing around with the borders though,
it feels kind of heavy the gray between phases
darkens things a lot, rethink that beautiful
use of color on pages 22 and 23, but Exhibit 8
could be better framed and its title made more
prominent . . .
182. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Dynamic Data Revolution . . . extraordinary use
of color on page 24, consider not putting a
border or at least making it less intrusive and
consider making the entire exhibit a bit larger
to better show the 5 bullet points Exhibit 10
sets new standards, its awesome great use of
color, again, this time in the Gantt Chart
shows incredible attention to standards and
quality, extraordinary work 10
192. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- FIST Nicely bound good use of logo in back
cover (consider putting your motto here)
excellent idea to put a time line in the TOC, but
could be made clearer excellent idea to use a
watermark the Team Page in the back is
incredible, great pictures, couldve added what
each of member did for the deliverable the
headers and titles are consistent and well
designed . . .
202. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- FIST . . . the page numbers were done by hand
and that detracts from the finished look of the
document the cover letter is well framed in its
page, but there is no contact information and the
titles of Van and Eric are too small Executive
Summary is well framed in the page, but consider
using full justify to better frame the
paragraphs the Gantt Chart would be easier to
read if it had color shows a great deal of
innovation 9
212. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- IDS Nicely bound excellent idea to use motto
in back cover page awesome Timeline, still best
in class good to put date on each page as well
as logo headers are consistent, almost . . . the
font size increased with the Executive Summary
consider moving the Executive Summary down on the
page a bit, to better frame it, also suggest
using full justify and not indenting the first
paragraph (see if you like that look) awesome
Team Page, the title is not need and looks
awkward, but good description of what each member
did, great idea to use fresh ink to sign off,
nicely cropped pictures great idea to use
organizational chart, although it had some
unnecessary information such as approval . . .
222. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- IDS . . . consider not indenting the first
paragraph of each section, it is a nice signal to
the reader that a major transition has just
occurred, you did this in the Client Profile
section, but nowhere else nice mix of narrative
and bullets very nice way to organize the
feasibility studies, good idea to put grade on
top, it provides good orientation sadly the
Project Initiation page was misprinted, the
printer must not have recognized a hard return,
this mishap really chopped up the rest of the
pages, very unfortunate Operational costs is
not capitalized consistent with the other titles
the legend for Operational Costs is difficult to
read . . .
232. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- IDS . . . the Work Plan is very well designed
and displayed, consider using color to enhance
readability, the due dates are difficult to read,
the Status column is very useful Gantt Chart is
missing, the last Table is a weak substitute, it
contains duration information, but not time
dependencies and resource allocations, it also
needs a title in general, the tables need to be
labeled and if possible titled good job
interspersing tables with narrative shows
expertise in professional presentations, an
unfortunate mishap did not deter significantly
8.5
242. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Infinite Analysis nicely bound excellent paper
for the cover page logo in back cover is hard to
read, but may have a good subliminal effect the
paper throughout the document is excellent the
headers are consistent and very crisp the use of
a border to frame each page greatly increases the
quality of the document the cover letter is
extremely well framed the Table of Contents is
beautiful in its simplicity and elegance, great
job framing the components, however, Of should
probably not be capitalized the formatting of
the titles changed from the Table of Contents to
the Executive Summary, but the Executive Summary
is also extremely well-framed and balanced . . .
252. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Infinite Analysis . . . the pictures are grainy
but well cropped and placed, the individual write
ups are very good, consider not boxing these in,
consider not indenting them, consider not
underlining the name and title of the members,
dont put the titles in parenthesis (your style
is stark simplicity, so endeavor to make that a
unifying value throughout) the color at the
bottom of the page is striking, but somehow it
needs to be balanced with color on top or
elsewhere, consider setting the titles in a
similar colored box for balance fully justifying
every paragraph is very effective in the
problems/opportunities identified section, page
6, things get cramped, the bullet list start off
too soon (visually you expect more narrative
motivating the list) . . .
262. Score Look and Feel (out of 10)
- Infinite Analysis . . . consider not indenting
the first paragraph of each sentence, it is a
strong signal to the reader that a major
transition has just occurred very generous use
of wide margins give the sense of wealth,
abundance, and the impression that things have
been boiled down to their essence the Workplan
is not very well motivated (visually one would
expect a narrative before jumping in with a
table) the size of the table is very nice, it is
very readable (what you would expect from a
document that is actually going to get used to
drive the project), some pages however do not
have any information, moreover in Gantt Charts
one expects to see time dependencies as well as
clear component dependencies (arrows and other
weird looking symbols), using color would enhance
its readability shows superior workmanship 10
272. Bottom Line Look and Feel (out of 10)
- BIG 7 points Excellent display of financial
data, good work from individual members, but
little consistency between work products - Dynamic Data Revolution 10 points Awesome use
of color, incredible attention to standards and
quality - FIST 9 points Extremely innovative watermark
and awesome team page - IDS 8.5 points Timeline and Team page continue
to be their trademarks, very concise and best in
class for balancing dynamic and static
elements, unfortunate printing mishap - Infinite Analysis 10 points Maintained a unique
and extremely powerful style throughout the
document, superior workmanship
283. Bottom Line Organized (out of 10)
- BIG no table of contents otherwise all the
components are in place and follow a logical
order needs to guide the reader more in going
from one section to the next 7 - Dynamic Data Revolution well organized, but
needs to guide the reader more in going from one
section to the next 9 - FIST Opens up with the Table of Contents, the
reader may never get past that need to put TOC
after Cover Letter and Executive Summary, these
have the job of pulling the reader in the
Project Management section needs more guiding
narrative 8
293. Bottom Line Organized (out of 10)
- IDS The TOC is very informative, but needs to
come after the cover letter, else reader may
never get pass the TOC consider putting the
Team Page on the back side of the Cover Page,
it is awkward where it is at now the
Organizational Chart, although a great idea,
seems misplaced (it should) be within the
narrative transitions between sections would
help guide the reader, the Project Initiation for
example sorely needs an introduction dido the
Project Management section 8 - Infinite Analysis the TOC belongs after the
Executive Summary in the TOC you have Team
Contributions but that section is actually
titled Phase Contributions this is needs to be
consistent, moreover, this is not a phase need
more transitions between sections, for example
from Business Model we jump to Problems in the
Company without motivating the change then you
do not guide the reader as to what to expect
