Project Description

• Problem very little regulation on discharge of
  waste aircraft deicing fluids
• Solution - New EPA guidelines on airports
  discharge of waste deicing fluid to be released
  in the fall of 2007and take effect in the fall
  of 2009
• Todd Cavender, Enviornmental Manager for the
  Indianapolis Airport, has hired DSL to design a
  method to reduce the amount of runoff due to
  deicing and anti-icing procedures

Final Design

• Implement all three best management practices
• Deicing pods are to be placed in a centralized
  location, with a newly designed collection system
  allowing deicing fluid to be separated from storm
  runoff.
• A storage tank, or pond, is to be constructed to
  the southwest of these new pods.
• This pond will hold the deicing runoff until a
  collection company is able to pick up the fluid
  and recycle it.
