2This is Mary. Mary is a successful young business
woman who secretly aspires to be a writer and has
set goals to write her first novel. Usually, she
is pretty busy, so she uses a program on her cell
phone to motivate and remind her to work on this
distant goal of hers.
3The cell phone application actually interacts
with her planner on the phone and notices that
today, Mary is free of work.
4Since Mary seems to be free, the application
suggests
5The application also interacts with other
programs, such as a weather information website
and a GPS traffic program. Instead of just
reminding Mary to work on her novel, the
application motivates her by offering her
interesting places to work at (and where she will
expand her creativity). At the same time, the
application makes it very easy and convincing for
Mary to get to these suggested locales to work on
her novel.
6At the beach, the cell phone application actually
through bluetooth wireless connection interacts
with the laptop, occasionally cheers her on to
motivate her, as well as providing important
information that Mary requests. For example, if
there is information that a brief thunderstorm is
heading Marys way, it would alert Mary as she
types away on her laptop.
7At home, the cell phone asks Mary for her
progress

9If Mary inputted yes, the application would
encourage her to work more.
10If Mary ended up playing at the beach instead,
the application would show a sad face, and tells
her of the consequences of slacking off.
11Following the stern warning, the application
still encourages Mary in a positive way, in an
attempt to help Mary think positively about her
goal.
