AIC Pvt. Ltd.
  • Loading Arms the next revolution

2
About AIC
  • AIC is basically an engineering company who are
into manufacturing of COMPOSITE PRODUCTS, COOLING
    TOWERS, OZONIZATION, LIQUID HANDLING SYSTEMS.
AIC has a wide experience of 22 years and are
pioneers in developing any product which requires
    reverse engineering.
  • AIC takes technical assistance from institutes
like IIT, UDCT, VJTI whenever any new product
has to be developed which requires reverse
Engineering and such association helps AIC to
    solve any type critical problems.
  • AIC due to its ever growing vision and product
    development aic introduced liquid handling
systems (loading arms) for handling various
liquid, chemicals, petroleum products, etc. All
advanced countries are using such systems for
handling liquid and getting inspired looking at
those systems we have introduced this system in
    the country.

3
Conventional systems
  • Normally hoses are being used for handling
liquids chemicals, petroleum products, etc. But
    such systems have many limitations
  • Limitations
  • Hoses after a couple of months wear out and
    starts leaking.
  • Low operational efficiency.
  • Bulky in handling.
  • Increases environment pollution.
  • Min. Two persons are required for handling the
    hose.
  • Lot of spillage.
  • Low life, less efficiency, it becomes awkward for
the hoses to handle bulk quantity of fluid.

4
What are Loading Arms?
  • Its a system consisting of rigid pipes connected
together with swing joints to obtain better
efficiency in loading unloading of liquids both
in terms of time and money.
  • Transferring of liquid products in to Tank
Trucks, Rail wagons, barrels carboys from a
fixed source by pipe to filling or unloading
point that may park in any position.
  • Loading Arms Consists of the following
  • 1. Primary Arm 2. Secondary Arm 3. Drop
Pipe 4. Swing Joints 5. Balancing Unit. 6.
Other accessories as per customers requirement.

5
Why loading arms
  • Looking at the above limitations of hoses loading
    arms have following advantages
  • Its the most efficient and reliable way of fluid
handling both in terms of time money.
  • Longer life.
  • Reliable and rugged alternatives to the hose.
  • No spillage.
  • Easy to maintain.
  • Available in variety of material.
  • Filling cost is reduced.
  • Increases productivity and decreases labor cost.
  • Environment friendly.
  • Hazardous liquids like Oleum, Sulphuric Acid,
Liquid NH3 etc can be easily handled by Loading
    Arms in comparison to Hoses.

Heart of loading arm
  • SWING JOINT Swing joints are used for
flexibility in movements and leak free operation
at high pressure and temperature. It consists of
    the following
  • 1. Ball bearing built in to the housing with high
    precision clearance.
  • 2. Special o ring seals are used to ensure
retention of the lubricants and exclusion of
    pollutants.
  • 3. Main seal which is lip type. M.O.C of the seal
is selected based on the liquid being handled.
The design of seal is such that it mates with the
surface during operation and gives excellent
sealing function. Mating surface is precision
    machined.
  • 4. We manufacture following types of SWING
JOINTS. a. Two Piece Swing Joint b. Three Piece
Swing Joints. Customization of the swing joints
is possible depending on the application.

7
Balancing unit
  • To stabilize the loading arm at it parking,
loading or unloading positions the spring
    balancer are used.
  • The spring balancers are basically used to
balance the entire system of loading arm in order
    to make it user friendly.
  • Balancer can be of different types depending upon
    the loading arm size.
  • 1. Single Spring Type Balancer 2. Double Spring
    Balancer 3. Pneumatic Balancer.

8
Types of loading arms
  • Selection of the type of loading arm to be used
depends on the Tanker which has filled or
unloaded. Nowadays tank truck comes with the
fittings which determine whether it is for Top
    Loader or Bottom Loader/Un loader.
  • TOP LOADING ARMS
  • Top loading arms are normally used where
the liquid has to be filled in the tank truck,
rail wagon from top. Its available in
  • variety of forms depending upon the
    application and site conditions.
  • BOTTOM UNLOADING ARMSBottom unloading arms are
used where the liquid from the tank truck or Rail
Tanker has to be unloaded or Loaded. Such
unloading arms are generally used where Railcar,
    Chemical Transport offloading and aircraft
    refueling.

Bottom loading arms
  • Bottom loading arm pictures will be sending to
you by email. Make provision for 2 pictures.
  • Bottom Loaders
  • Bottom loading systems offer numerous benefits
    over conventional top loaders.
  • Safety is the prime advantage since the operator
remains on the ground, not on
  • top of the truck where falls are a common threat.
Bottom loading connections are made more quickly
so overall loading time is reduced.
  • Bottom loading creates less turbulence in the
tank, reducing the danger of generating static
electricity. Bottom loading not only reduces
vapors which can be an environmental hazard, but
this system can also be easily adapted to fully
    recover vapors displaced during loading.
  • Speed is a key advantage of bottom loading
because tanks can be filled faster and a number
of compartments can be loaded simultaneously.
Bottom loading islands are simpler and cheaper to
build than top loading racks. Maintenance time is
also reduced. You can realize more savings
because you'll safely load more material in a
shorter time with less spillage and vapour loss.

Testing of loading arms its components
  • Generally following tests are carried out on the
loading arm its components during manufacturing
    of the loading arm
  • Chemical analysis of all the components as per
    standards
  • Ultrasonic testing to ensure leak proof
operation. This is specially done on elbows,
pipes, flanges etc. As per ASTM SA 388 AND ASTM
    SE 213
  • Hydro testing of seals, orings, swing joint.
  • Final hydro testing of the assembled loading arm.
Hydro testing is done at 1.5 times the designed
pressure for the whole day continuously.
  • Welding is done as per asme v article 2 asme ix.
We maintain WPS and PQR for welding.
  • All weld joints undergo radiography test.

17
Quality assurance sizes of loading arms
available.
  • A detailed QAP is made before we start the
manufacturing of the Loading Arm and the same is
sent to our clients for approval.
  • Welding process meets all the requirement of
section IX of the boiler and pressure vessel code
of ASME II and are radiography tested.
  • SIZES Loading Arms are available for various
    line sizes ½, 1, 2, 3, 4.

Future prospects
  • AIC is well planned to launch its new series of
Loading Arms which will specially go for marine
    applications.
  • These loading arms will have size ranging from 6
to 16 Dia. These system require special
hydraulic and pneumatic system for its operation.
We are working and developing the same in full
swing. We expect to launch the same in near
future. You can see the model picture of the
    Marine loading arm below.
