2What is 4iP?
4iP is an innovation fund to stimulate public
service digital media across the UK. In
English, that means supporting great ideas for
websites, games and mobile services which help
people improve their lives.
3What will 4iP do?
- 4iP is an enabler, turning fabulous ideas into
delightful products. - 4iP will support a rich mix of ideas early
risky small focused big crunchy. - 4iP will amplify existing products so they
deliver more impact. - 4iP will nurture new digital talent across the UK
- 4iP will help other leading public institutions
grasp the digital opportunity globally - 4iP will connect people and organisations who
otherwise would never get to work together. - 4iP will catalyse profit making as well as
non-profit making initiatives, and sometimes take
equity
44iP is partnerships
- 4iP is a three year pilot, with Channel 4
contributing up to 20m in a fund totalling up to
50m - Regional partnerships with Scotland, Yorkshire
West Midlands RDAs - Interest from regional partners in Bristol and
South West, Northern Ireland and North East - Strand partnerships include Arts Council of
England (Digital Arts), NESTA (Innovation), Sport
England (Sport) - An expanding list of project partners that
includes Cisco, Eden Project, Sun Microsystems
5How will 4iP work?
4iP operates at a range of scales
- Really Big Ideas (around 20 over 3 years)
- 4iP will support around 20 big ideas in the
next 3 years. We invite companies or public
institutions to come up with 100 digital ideas
with the potential to improve the lives of
millions of people in the UK. - Supporting Talent and Promise (1000s over 3
years) - 4iP will help 1000s of individuals and start-ups
across the UK to develop early stage ideas and
prototypes. Working with a range of partners, 4iP
will also help these innovators develop skills,
capabilities partnerships required to turn
prototypes into businesses.

centre of gravity in participation or

from 4iP? - Can it thrive without cross promotion from linear
TV? - Will it scale well if it attracts a large user
base?

Capturing sharing audio on the move
- AudioBoo is an iPhone application, website and
API that allows users to record and share audio
from their mobile phones - AudioBoo captures the location of the recording
making the recording browsable by place - The API will allow other sites and services to
call recordings by location or subject

- Why 4iP?
- Being free to the user, AudioBoo champions
alternative voices and fresh perspectives and
with a powerful API can be used by any number of
websites to stir things up in a 4 like fashion. - The spoken word is a powerful thing, easily lost.
We very rarely record it, store it or re-use it
in any way. Online digital web services like
AudioBoo can address this.

community sites across the country, owned,

- A rooftop map of Britains energy loss, exposing
how much cash is lost through the countrys
school, hospital and public building roofs. - A chance for every citizen to save moneyand the
environment - C4 will help meet nearly half of the Governments
CO2 reduction targets of 2050. In one year.
