History
  • With a grant of 100,000, the Elks National
    Foundation was established in 1928 as the
    charitable arm of the Elks.

Our mission is
  • Helping Elks build stronger communities.

We do this by
  • providing tomorrows leaders, our youth, with a
    healthy beginning.
  • honoring the Elks pledge to never forget our
    veterans.
  • investing in communities where Elks live and
    work.
  • helping the state Elks associations accomplish
    their charitable objectives.
  • funding projects that improve the quality of
    life in local Elks communities.

2006-07 Grants Include
  • 3.162 million in college scholarships
  • 1,331,810 to the Elks Youth Programs
  • 787,550 to the Elks National Veterans Service
    Commission
  • 6,058,190 in grants for state associations and
    local philanthropy through Community Investments
    Program grants.

College Scholarships
Most Valuable Student Contest
  • In 2006, the Foundation will award a total of
    2.216 million in four-year scholarships to 500
    national finalists.

Legacy Awards
  • Children and grandchildren of Elks.
  • Up to 500 one-year, 1,000 scholarships.
  • Based on ENF core values of Knowledge, Charity,
    Community and Integrity.

Emergency Educational Grants
  • Children of deceased or totally disabled Elks.
  • 1-year grants, renewable up to 3 times.
  • Up to 4,000 per year.

Youth Programs
Elks National Hoop Shoot Free-Throw Program
  • National free-throw contest for kids 8-13.
  • More than 3 million participants each year.
  • Provides healthy extra-curricular activity.
  • Promotes family time.
  • Instills integrity and good sportsmanship in
    youth.

Drug Awareness Program
  • Educating students and parents about substance
    abuse through educational material.
  • Conferences, workshops and seminars
  • Red Ribbon Week.
  • Partnerships with leading drug prevention
    organizations.

Veterans Service
  • Elks have pledged so long as there are veterans,
    the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks
    will never forget them.

Veterans Service, cont.
  • The Veterans Service program provides care and
    comfort to the 25 million veterans in the United
    States.
  • They do this by visiting VA hospitals, providing
    wheelchair gloves through the leather program
    reaching out to homeless veterans and
    establishing an Army of Hope for families of
    soldiers overseas.

Local Philanthropy
State Grants
  • The Foundation will distribute more than 5.5
    million to state Elks Associations this year.
  • These grants will help fund projects such as
    childrens hospitals, youth camps and safe
    havens, as well as state scholarships, Drug
    Awareness and Hoop Shoot programs.

Community Investments Program
  • 300 Gratitude Grants for Lodges who meet the
    GERs per-capita goal, to use to address a local
    unmet need.
  • 300 Promise Grants for Lodges who sponsor
    programs that build character and competency of
    youth.
  • The CIP allows Lodges to emerge as philanthropic
    leaders in their own communities.
