4Know your Campus TAKS Data!!
- Look through the TAKS data showing the
percentages of LEP students passing TAKS in PISD
in 2007 - Locate the table that you believe represents your
campus - Write your campus name above the table and give
to Laurie Shaw - If you are correct you will receive a prize in
the mail this week!
5Set your own goals for 2006-07
- Based on your campus TAKS data, campus
initiatives and your own personal goals and
objectives, write down one main goal that you
want to achieve with your LEP students this year.
Add your name at the top. - When I say, go, wad your goal up in a ball and
throw it toward a wall in the room. - On your way out today take a wad and dont look
at it until you get back to school. - Email this person periodically throughout the
year providing support, encouragement or ideas to
help them achieve this goal.

14Meetings are held

- All LPAC members must be trained annually
- If one of the members does not understand English
(parent), the training should be developed in the
members primary language - At the LPAC meeting, an interpreter should be
available - The parent volunteers his/her participation in
the LPAC
16Confidentiality
- The trained LPAC parent serves as the
representative parent for all LEP students. - Each trained member should sign an oath of
confidentiality. All information discussed
during the LPAC should only be shared with school
personnel needing the information. - The Oath is included in todays handout. Please
keep it in your binder.
17LPAC Responsibilities

18LPAC Responsibilities
- Parental Notification/Consent
- Parents must give permission for their child to
be served in ESL/Bil program - Must be provided information about benefits of
each program - Forms should be sent home in Spanish and
Vietnamese as appropriate - Assessment and documentation
- Determine need for exemptions and language of
tests - Procedures for Exiting and Monitoring
- PK-K students may not be exited
- Grade 1-2 fluent on OLPT and scores at or above
40ile on reading and language ITBS - Grades 3-12-fluent on OLPT and passes TAKS

- Coordination with ARD Committee
- A representative from the LPAC must attend all

20What is reviewed?
- Any data that is available that can be used to
make good, sound decisions on the following
years placement, for example - CBAs
- Classroom Tests
- State Criterion Test Data (TAKS)
- Norm-referenced Standardized Achievement Test
- Data (ITBS, SAT, MAT-8, etc.)
- Oral Language Proficiency Test Data
- Reading Proficiency Test Data (RPTE,TPRI, DRA
etc.) - Observation Protocols Data
- Grades
- Dibels progress monitoring data
21LPAC Responsibilities
- When students are exited from BIL/ESL the LPAC
reclassifies them as non-LEP. - Parents must be notified that the student has
met the state criteria for exiting and will be
monitored for 2 years. - Parent notification of the students exit must be
present in the students record folder
22Monitoring Exited Students
LPAC Responsibilities
- The LPAC committee is responsible for monitoring
the exited students for the next two years that
follow. - Monitoring consists of incremental, documented
review of grades, academic progress,TAKS scores,
etc...
23Monitored Students
- Newly exited students naturally experience
adjustments to the mainstream classroom
environment. - Districts should be aware of this and utilize all
available resources to ensure former LEP students
continue to achieve academic success - Communication between the ESL teacher and the
regular mainstream teacher during the year is
important in case an LPAC meeting is needed to
discuss the students reclassification or to
discuss any other needed interventions.
24- What do we do when a student transfers in from
another school?
25If the student transfers from a Texas school
- Review the withdrawal form, if available, to see
if he/she was being served in an ESL/bilingual
program or identified LEP in PEIMS - Try to get as much original documentation as
possible, especially the HLS and LPAC report
(document your attempts) - LPAC identifies and places students within the
first 20 school days of enrollment. Be sure that
all of the necessary signed documents are in the
students green folder.
26If the student transfers from a school outside
of Texas
- Review any documentation brought in by the
student - Proceed with Texas law for identification as
outlined for Texas students new to the district
27Top Rater Trainings
- All ESL teachers must be trained and certified as
TOP raters. - Teachers who have not been trained and certified
as TOP raters will attend a training here on
September 24. Please register on cornerstones. - Teachers who have already been trained and
certified will complete a new and improved online
refresher details later ? - If you need ESL certification, the ESL academy
will be on Nov. 17 and Dec. 1
28Lesson Plans and Schedules
- Please email your lesson plans and schedules to
me by Monday of your week. - I will be making my schedule next week and will
send it out to you asap.
29Spanish Speaking Students
- Before recommending a Spanish speaking student to
bilingual education, the he/she should be tested
in Spanish - Please contact Dr. Armando Sanchez or Barbara
Kennedy to administer the test for you

- Be sure that you have emailed all of your ESL
students needing Rosetta Stone to Sue Bryant.
