Charge Develop, implement, and evaluate
state-of-the-art numerical modeling systems for
the SE coastal ocean for research and operational
forecasting applications. Members

Modeling Workgroup - Progress

• Domain-wide merged wind- and tidally-driven
  barotropic hindcast/forecast fields are computed
  daily, posted on website archived on DODS
  servers.
• Results from hindcast studies for domain-wide
  response to storm events in 2001 are in
  preparation for publication.
• Climatology for mass field/hydrography nearing
  completion.
• Focused attention on analysis of the 2003 summer
  cool event.
• Tested baroclinic versions at each site and
  hindcast studies are underway.

Modeling Workgroup Planned Efforts

• Implement baroclinic models in forecast mode
  forced by heat fluxes, improved mass field (SST,
  obs) and river discharge.
• Lagrangian characterization of flow including
  long- and cross-shelf transport,
  fisheries-relevant processes, etc.
• Validate nowcasts/hindcasts with skill assessment
  products.
• Evaluate
• data assimilation approaches (elevation, velocity
  HR radar data)
• coupling to offshore (basin scale) models
• use of model ensembles.
• Expand biogeochemical lower trophic level
  modeling.
