Title: The Digestive System

1
The Digestive System
  • By Samantha
  • It starts from chewing

2
How it starts
  • Lets say you eat a hamburger. Well you put it in
your mouth and chew and chew in till it gets into
tiny pieces. Then it goes down your esophagus and
    into your stomach.
  • Your digestive system started working even before
you took the first bite of your hamburger. And
the digestive system will be busy at work on your
chewed-up lunch for the next few hours or
sometimes days, depending upon what you've eaten.
This process, called digestion, allows your body
to get the nutrients and energy it needs from the
    foods you eat.

3
The Esophagus
  • The Esophagus is a tube that connects the
    pharynx and the stomach.
  • The esophagus is the tube that carries food,
liquids and saliva from your mouth to the
    stomach.

4
Peristalsis
  • Peristalsis is an automatic and important process
that moves food through the digestive system.
  • Peristalsis are the movement that help squeeze
    the food down your esophagus.

5
The Stomach
  • The Stomachs inside wall is made up of millions
    of glands.
  • The food you have eaten is in the stomach for 4
hours breaking the nutrients up from the food to
    your body.
  • After the nutrients are broken up they are
    released into the small intestine.

6
Glands
  • Glands is the wall in your stomach.
  • The glands make gastric juice which has special
proteins and acids that break down the and digest
    the food.

7
Small Intestine
  • The small intestine is made up of long narrow
    tunnels of muscle.
  • The small intestine is uneven and covered with
    fingerlike bumps.
  • These bumps are covered with even smaller bumps.
Without these bumps the small intestine wouldnt
be able to absorb, or take in nutrients.

8
Large Intestine
  • The large intestine is the part of the digestive
system where waste products from the food you eat
are collected and processed into faeces.
  • The nutrients that couldnt be absorbed by the
small intestine are passed into the large
    intestine.

9
Your Body needs.
  • Your body needs vitamins, minerals,
    carbohydrates, water, fats and protein.
  • Carbohydrates are found in rice and bread.
  • Fats are found in eggs and oil.
  • Proteins are found in meats and beans.
  • Vitamins help the body fight illnesses.
  • Minerals such as calcium help build up the bones

10
What could go wrong?
  • A lot of things can go wrong with the digestive
    system.
