What is it?
  • Bluetooth technology is a low-power, low-cost
    wireless technology for short range radio
    communication between electronic devices like
    mobile phones, laptops, PDAs, stereo headsets,
    MP3 players, PCs, digital cameras and so on

  • In 1876, Ericsson initiated Bluetooth technology
    movement to eliminate wire clutter in homes and
    offices.

  • Ericsson mobile communications decided to name

Competitive Technology
  • Infrared (a standard for wireless connection).
  • Infrared needs the transmitter and the receiver
    ports to be in line-of-sight with each other.
  • The main drawback - it is a one-to-one
    technology, meaning, at a given time only two
    devices can be connected to each other.

  • In spite of all the advantages, there are also a
    few disadvantages of Bluetooth
  • It operates on a small bandwidth
  • Security Its discovery protocol allows devices
    to automatically find and start interacting with
    each other.

    remotely to a cell phone.
  • Eliminating cable linking computers to printers,
    keyboards and mouse.
  • Hooking up MP3 players wirelessly to other
    machines to download music.

  • Calling home from a remote location to turn
    appliances on and off, set the alarm, and monitor
    activity.
  • Use e-mail while your laptop is still in the
    briefcase! When your laptop receives e-mail,
    you'll get an alert on your mobile phone. You can
    also browse all incoming e-mails and read those
    you select in the mobile phone's display.

  • Thus, the Bluetooth specification is definitely
    real and is being widely adopted by various
