The Sixth Form here at Chase High opened in
September 2008.
With nearly 100 students, we are expanding
quickly, with excellent results already achieved.

At the heart of the school is the brand new
Independent Learning Centre.
This facility was especially designed and fully
equipped with the latest technology in order to
support the independent learning and research
activities expected as part of 6th Form studies.

There is a focus on students learning andthe
commitment from all staff means that students

Financial Support!
SIXTH FORM
As a Post-16 student, you may be entitled to
claim an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
This is means tested and gives you a weekly
allowance of up to 30 to assist you with further
education. Attendance and meeting course
requirements are used as eligibility criteria
each week.

At Chase Highs 6th Form, we also offer a unique
financial opportunity for students.
We are the ONLY 6th Form in the Southend area
to offer students the opportunity to take up paid
employment within the school to support their
studies.

The Role of the Academic Advisor
SIXTH FORM

• They meet daily with their tutor groups,
  therefore they are able to deal with any problems
  immediately.
• Because they meet daily with their tutor groups
  they get to know their students really well.
• They provide support for students to help them
  adjust to the extra freedom and responsibility
  that being a sixth former brings.

• They will meet students on a one to one basis to
  discuss various issues, these could range from
• Subject specific issues.
• Managing time effectively.
• References.
• Personal difficulties which are affecting their
  studies.
• Help and support with UCAS applications.
• Any other issue which is of concern.

• The Advisors will oversee the academic progress
  of each student.
• Progress is monitored through a review and
  target-setting process with regular feedback to
  both students and parents.
• If there are subject specific concerns the
  Advisor will meet with both subject teacher and
  student in order to try and improve the
  situation.

• We consider the role of the Academic Advisor
  crucial to the well being of every student.
  Students are treated as young adults and are
  expected to respond as such. If there are
  problems it is expected the Advisors are the
  first to discover these and respond in the
  appropriate manner.

What do you need to do next? 1. Data awareness
SIXTH FORM
Look closely at your GCSE Target Grades. This
will enable you to choose the correct Level of
course to follow after Y11.
2 x GCSEs at Grade F or above
2 x GCSEs at Grade D or above
5 x GCSEs at Grades A?C (inc. Maths
English)

Research the different courses available. Find
out where they can lead you. For example, dont
think that the only way you can get to university
is by doing A Levels
A university or other Higher Education course
will require you to achieve a certain number of
points.

For example, to study for a BSc Degree in
Forensic Science at Anglia Ruskin University, a
student requires 200 points.
The key thing is that the university does not
mind how these points are achieved.

If a specific qualification is required (e.g.
A Level Biology at Grade C or above), this will
be stated in the university prospectus.

Start discussing your plans. There are plenty of
people with all kinds of advice out there!
Speak to our Connexions Advisor. Book an
appointment with Mrs. Krusche.
Talk to your teachers. They can advise you about
courses that will suit your ability and meet your
needs.
Talk to your family. You usually trust their
advice! They can also ask any questions on your
behalf.
Study Skills sessions will involve exploring and
discussing the different Post-16 opportunities.

To get the most out of studying after the age of
16 its important to take time to choose the
right courses and qualifications. Ask yourself
1. What are you good at and what do you enjoy?
Most people do better in subjects they like.
Some courses may not need any previous experience.
2. Do you want to learn something new?
3. Will the course structure suit you?
Do you prefer exams, continual assessment or a
mixture of both?
4. Will the learning style suit you?
Do you prefer lectures, class discussions or
practical workshops?
