What are A levels for?
  • The main passport to higher education and
    university.
  • Essential for many careers
  • Success at A level is proof to employers of
academic ability, good skills of communication
and the ability to work independently and under
    pressure.

    especially important for Physics.
  • There is a strong Human Biology element in

    equally important.

Additional Studies
  • Critical Thinking AS all students do the course
and may be entered for the AS exam. CT is
excellent for developing the critical and
analytical skills required in most A level
    subjects.
  • Life Skills Programme. An innovative and
important development. This will focus on self
    discovery and developing effective leadership,
    followership and team working skills.
Understanding your own strengths and aptitudes is
the foundation of making intelligent and informed
choices for the future. It also exposes students
to the sort of self- assessment and development
training commonly used in business and commerce.
  • Extended Project an opportunity for students
with particular gifts to gain recognition (worth
points for higher education) for their particular
achievements. This is intended to formally award
the creative work of students done in their own
time and in pursuit of a personal interest.

Life Skills programme
  • Psychometric Testing
  • EI
  • Presentation Skills

Support and Guidance
  • There is an induction programme at the start of
Lower Sixth with a focus on developing key A
    level study skills.
  • Every student is continually assessed by subject
    teachers.
  • Each term an assessment of attainment is made by
teachers and analysed by form tutor and Head of
Senior School. Feedback is then given to each
    student.
  • All Sixth Formers receive advice and guidance in
selecting and applying for higher education
    courses.
  • The school organises outside speakers to give
information on gap years and student life.
  • We visit the Higher Education convention in
    Ipswich.
  • All students are encouraged to attend higher
    education open days.

14
Service to the School Community
  • We offer all Sixth Formers the opportunity to be
    senior prefects and role models.
  • We want to provide opportunity for candidates
with the right qualities to take on positions of
    real responsibility
  • - Head of School
  • - Deputy Head of School
  • - Chair of the School Council
  • - Head Prefect
  • - Head of House

15
Social Life and the wider world
  • We have a regular after school Sixth Form Social
    Club
  • We organise a Sixth Form outing every term.
  • There are opportunities for Sixth Form to
initiate and organise social events often for
charity such as discos, shows (sometimes as
part of a course) and fund raising events.
  • We have occasional outside contributors such as a
safe driving presentation and involvement by
outsiders in the Life Skills Programme.

16
What is unique about Finborough
  • We are a small and friendly Sixth Form with
average group sizes of 4 5 students.
  • We have the ability to give a lot of individual
help and one to one guidance.
  • We can provide much greater opportunity for
taking on roles of responsibility than many
    larger institutions could.
  • We wish to develop confidence and useful life
skills as well as academic competence.
