  • Of course, although its not easy to summarize
such a big organization as ours without
oversimplifying things a little. In my case I
work in FAS, which stands for Financial Advisory
Services and we provide financial advice to a
companies around the world. We er might be asked,
for example, to give advice to a company that is
considering a merger or an acquisition. Or an
organization might require our help with
arranging the finance from some really large
project like building a power station. Another
aspect of FAS deals with what we call Business
Recovery and Restructuring and here we are
usually working with companies that have fun into
financial difficulties and which need to
reorganize. Lastly FAS also includes Valuations,
which, as its name suggests, involves valuing
businesses for companies and investors to see
    exactly what they are worth.

  • I work in MCS or Management Consulting Services
and here we tend to concentrate on advising our
clients about the performance side of their
businesses. We do this in a variety of ways. We
can help companies define their business
strategy, which sets out the ways in which they
intend to grow and develop the business.
Sometimes we work more on the detailed day-to-day
operations, looking at how to improve the ways in
which a company runs its business. We also have
specialists who review the clients information
technology systems and suggest how they can be
improved and in some cases even managing the
    department for them.

  • Clients come to us in Tax and Legal Services, or
TLS, for advice on a whole range of questions
involving taxation. This could involve personal
tax or business taxes such as corporation tax. Or
we might be consulted about issues relating to
international trade or financing a deal.

  • Since I joined the company, Ive worked in
Assurance Business Advisory Services (or ABAS for
short). Here we focus on the accounting and
auditing of clients businesses. In addition, we
review the financial statements of an
organization and provide an opinion on whether
the figures presented are true. There is also
what we call Transaction Support where we work
together with clients who are involved in mergers
or acquisitions to help them to get a clear
picture of the accounts and business activities
of a target company. Finally we also provide
evaluations of global risk and help companies to
manage the risks that are associated with
businesses which in turn contributes to improving
    both their management and performance.
