DAILY TRANSITIONS
  • RAPS This stands for Review and Preview. These
will generally be writing and answering questions
from the board, overhead, or textbook. This is the
    most common.
  • CRITICAL THINKING These are open ended questions
designed to make you think about a particular
subject matter. There are no right or wrong
    answers to these.
  • WORKING IT OUT These are generally lists or
charts of information you are to write or glue
into the journal. They usually come with a
question(s) that you need to analyze the
information in the graph in order to answer.

After the notes immediately write out a CONNECTION
Notes Objective
YES! Surround the connection in a black box.
CONNECTION
15
CONNECTIONS
  • CONNECTIONS These create a mental connection
between what was done in class (i.e. movie,
notes, presentations, tests, etc.) and the
overall mastery question. These are simple
statements where you summarize and explain the
    daily activities importance.
  • Example Today I learned the various definitions
for specific vocabulary words. Understanding what
each word means will help me better understand
the notes later on. It is only by truly
understanding the individual objectives that I
can answer the overall mastery question
correctly. Also, the vocabulary object acts as a
preview for what the unit will cover over the
    next several weeks. (4 sentences!)

16
You CAN NOT start a new day on either of these
spots.

The FILL INS
  • Geography/Maps This is a required cut paste.
You can put this on either the left or right
side. You must have the entire map glued to the
page. All maps must be colored and labeled
    according to the individual instructions.
  • Time Outs In order for you to earn above an 89
you must have at least one of these or a Personal
Response for every unit. A Time Out is you taking
time out of your lives to put something in your
journal that relates to what we are learning.
    These can be cartoons, newspaper/magazine
articles, or things downloaded of the Internet.
  • Personal Responses In order for you to earn
above an 89 you must have at least one of these
or a Time Out for every unit These are a way for
you to communicate with me. You can use these to
vent your frustration about something (or even
someone) in the class, or to let me know you
particularly liked something. You can even ask
questions within a Personal Response, but since I
only check your journals once a grading period,
make sure its not a question that needs an
    immediate answer.

How does the help me?
  • By taking clear and easily accessible notes you
will be able to re-read them later on while
    studying.
  • By following the indention procedure while
taking notes, you will be able to write out
questions you need answered. AND THEN GET THEM
    ANSWERED!
  • And most importantly

24
If you have a TEST PREP PAGE you can use your
journal on the test and quizzes!!!
WAIT. WHATS A TEST PREP PAGE????
25
TEST PREP PAGE
  • The Test Prep Page is designed to make you
actively study for the unit test or final.
  • You create one page (single sided) with four
columns on each, labeling them Names, Dates,
    Events, and Terms.
  • Then starting from objective two, you read
through your notes writing down all names, dates,
    events, and terms.
  • For each item write a quick phrase reminding you
    of its significance.
