Professor Kenneth Bingham
  • Currently runs four theatre companies in and
around the Philadelphia area, the Premier
    Philadelphia Theatre being Theatre Exile
  • Last year, they put on five main stage
productions, got themselves nominated for seven
Barrymores (more than any other theater save for
the Arden and Wilma), and received half a million
in grant monies. Theyve been called the Go to
company for fierce, sexy theater, by the
Philadelphia Inquirer, and the cultural theater
that should be made obligatory to any young
person in the city, by the City Paper.

6
  • South Camden Theatre Company may be his smallest
theater, but it makes the greatest impact and he
believes it provides the greatest service. Its
been featured on CNN and Comcast, as well as
being written up in papers from Philly, to NYC,
to Dublin. He cannot claim to be the lifeforce
behind this theater, although he does serve as
    president.
  • He also runs a reading series at local
bookstores, which features talents from faculty,
staff, and study body. In addition to this, last
year he sponsored several photography exhibits, a
student play and a short feature film that
    featured Drexel talent.

7
  • Over the next year, Ken hopes to bring theater
from Europe and Japan to Philadelphia to tag
along with the Fringe Theater success. He has
already developed relationships with many of the
companies hell be working with overseas, and
have only to find a University that will be
willing to engage their stage for the
    productions.
  • Books
  • Not the Way I Planned It, a mystery fiction
  • Too Many Hamlets, a study of the many different
plays and players who have adapted and adopted
    the character and play
  • Christmas Around the World, which explores the
traditions and celebrations of the holiday across
    the planet
  • Currently concluding a trilogy, entitled The
    Nights of Many Faces

8
  • Books, contd

    Shakespeares plays

from Comcast, hes creating on a ten-part drama
series which should air next Fall

the perils, pratfalls and successes of a writer,
taking them on a course from draft to publication

    about baseball

Dr. Diane Downs
  • Research in Progress
  • Currently cataloging a cache of World War II
letters exchanged between a husband a wife. The
initial exchange of letters in the forties
illustrate the widening cultural gap between the
life style and values of a mid-western American
small town and the outward looking international
concerns of a woman who lived to breathe and work
in an international political setting. Dr. Downs
envisions a text that illustrates the conflict
through selected portions of the letters
supplemented by her own analysis. There are
hundreds of these carefully dated letters. They
require cataloguing and duplication before she
can go much further with the project.
