NTPs and private providers. - Rationale Professional societies provide a
systematic means of engaging private providers. - Process

willing) professional societies in HBCs (and ?
others) to be the lead organization. - Initiated with a full day session as part of DEWG
meeting at the Union conference in October.
12Professional Society Mobilization Project
- Seek agreement to form coalitions of societies
using model of India and Indonesia - Present/discuss the outlines (possible
components) of a work plan. - Provide grants (? up to10,000) to fund work plan
during year 1. - Provide TA for work plan development and
implementation - Review progress/accomplishments at Union meeting
in 2009 - Seek country-level funding after first year.
13Professional Society Mobilization Project
- Important questions
- What is the role of multinational organizations?
- (examples World Medical Association, Forum of
International Respiratory Societies ATS, ERS,
ALAT, APSR, ACCP, PATS, The Union) - How many societies should be involved?
- How can technical assistance be provided?
- How can/should a focus on professional societies
be maintained beyond the project?
