3PROTEIN
Protein tip kids need about 0.5 grams of protein
for every pound they weigh
Protein has 4 calories per gram
4fat
- Fat is a component in food. Some foods, including
most fruits and vegetables, have almost no fat.
Other foods have plenty of fat. They include
nuts, oils, butter, and meats like beef. - Fat tipExperts suggest kids who are 6 to 8 eat
48 to 60 grams per day. Older kids, between 9 and
12, should eat about 60 to 75 grams. That's about
27 of a kid's daily calories. - fat has 9 calories per gram
5 There are no calories to a trace of them in
vitamins.
6minerals
- Minerals are just like vitamins, they help your
body grow and your bones get strong - Mineral tip zinc, potassium, iron, and calcium
are all the things you need in your body!
7Water
8Water (continued)
It might not seem like it, but water is the most
necessary nutrient of them all - so necessary
that people can't survive for more than a few
days without it. More than half of the weight of
your body is water - if you weigh 60 pounds (27
kilograms), fewer than 25 of those pounds (11
kilograms) are minerals and other solid stuff.
The remaining pounds are water.
